QUOTE
A baby has miraculously survived after his pram rolled off a railway platform in front of a train.

The six-month-old baby boy had only a cut to his head after the accident in Melbourne, Australia.

The train was slowing down as it came into the station but dragged the baby's pram about 35 yards along the tracks before coming to a halt.

Watch this CCTV video and you will be amazed he survived at all.

Paramedic Jon Wright told the Herald Sun newspaper the baby was fine afterwards and just "needed a feed and a nap".

He said: "Luckily, he was strapped into his pram at the time, which probably saved his life. I think the child's extremely lucky."

The video shows how easily such an incident could happen, as the mum takes her hands off the pram for just a moment, having forgotten to put the brakes on.

The pram then rolls towards the edge of the platform with the mother unable to grab it. She watches in horror as it falls in front of the train.

Any parent can only imagine how that poor woman must have felt as she stood there helplessly. She must be thanking her lucky stars for every minute for the rest of her life that her son was unharmed.

The rail firm Connex is launching an investigation into how the pram rolled off the platform.

Coincidentally, the day before the accident happened, Connex had launched a child safety awareness campaign warning parents to keep children strapped into their prams at all times when on railway platforms.

I walked into the kitchen and I saw the footage on the TV. I really thought it had died, but I guess they wouldn't show that on the news tongue.gif
Discuss.

Glad to know the baby made it. When I saw the footage of the pram rolling off the platform, I noticed that the mother was right there facing towards the pram (probably not paying much attention to it). She was right there, so why does it almost seem like she hesitated to grab the pram?

I'm not really accusing the mother of anything, but I did see something like that and it concerned me.

Most lucky baby ever. I can imagine how the mother must have felt to see the pram get pushed by the train, wondering whether she will ever see her baby again. Of course, she would have felt immense relief when the baby was found unharmed, but she would have been in shock the entire time the search time was looking.

The rest of the people on the platform reacted slower than a normal person would in that situation too, though I was also surprised that the mother did not simply grab the pram when she first saw it moving.

I think you are right Dizzy, she paused for about 2 seconds then got up. Maybe she blinked, maybe she was just a bit shocked.

I'm thinking the baby is like Superman or something, he just took a train on and won. Really lucky, and I don't really think this is the mom's fault at all, she obviously just made a small mental error.
SuperStevee
Jesus, imagine how that mom would have felt if it would have died.
Trunkzta
OMG! thats horrible :|
SgtGumbo
That would have stressed me to death.

Making the baby the survivor XD
Aslancsc
I woulda fainted.

Wow.

That baby is very lucky. I feel bad for the mom, she must have thought her baby was gone.

Yeah, your child falls into the railway tracks and then you see only the side of the train. That would be just plain scary.

Very lucky kid.
Lord Zaros
Omg the baby was very lucky! And the mother is very irresponsible.
Neven
I can't believe that baby made it. When it grows up it's going to be called the Train Baby or Superbaby or something like that. The mother should've done a better job of keeping an eye on her child.
Stellar
"Police say the mother did nothing wrong..."

Other than not putting on the break, watching the baby roll away, and doing nothing about it.
I can understand we are all humans and make mistakes, but that's exactly what I'm getting at. I think the news should have made a bigger deal about this incident. Perhaps they could have alerted mothers enough for them to be more cautious.

I'd say the baby is lucky, however you never really know what could have happened when it fell to the bottom of the tracks. The baby could have serious brain damage now, which isn't too lucky if you ask me.

Saw this on the news. Almost died until I realized it survived.
Alex
I don't think she did anything wrong. She just stopped to sort out her clothes and the pram started rolling.

The other people on the platform seem slow, but do you really take a lot of notice of someone else's pram?
Sofee
I also saw it on the news. I was going 'Oh, my god' but the baby survived tongue.gif . How silly not to put the brakes on. The mother looked so terrified, even from a distance. Wow.
Flatypus
Yeh, but I doubt she'll ever forget to do it again. And she'll probably be a really over-protective parent when the kid is older, which is unfortunate, because it was partly her fault.
Egg
Yeah, my mom was telling me this and she said that there was a warning put out a week or so previous to this that said the same strollers were prone to rolling away if the brakes were not applied. (duh...?)
Flatypus
Its a conspiracy by the Australian government :o
Get your tin foil hats out everyone ninja.gif

It took until now for me to realize this was in Australia and not in the UK. This explains the off-sounding accent.
