Hi guys,

We’ve just launched a comic writing competition with an affiliate site of ours called MMOhub. Here’s a pretty hefty excerpt of the post that’s just gone live:

“RuneScapians!

Lend me your pointy-green/Dragon Med-covered ears! Your world renowned MMO Life team have joined forces with Jagex, the makers of RuneScape, in order to bring you a RuneScape-themed competition the likes of which has never been seen before!

Rather like the denizens of MMOhub.org, Jagex also loves to see a bit of creativity from its community. Whether it’s supporting their well-established events and creative gameplay communities, or reviewing amazing RuneScape videos from their last YouTube competition – they, like us, are frequently in awe of the level of creativity on display.

Knowing that such a smorgasbord of talent exists within the community, we were keen to come up with something that could really let the creative types amongst you shine. That’s why the Community Management team at Jagex have hooked MMOhub up with of one of Jagex’s top artists! They’ve now thrown down a challenge which we’re all sure you’ll love – to help them create world’s first RuneScape Comic Strip!

Our Jagex artist extraordinaire has come up with three potentially-hilarious comic strip ideas. The only problem is… the middle three panels are missing from each of them. We need you to pick the strip that inspires you most and then fill in the missing panels with the most creative and humorous way of getting from opening scene to closing punch-line.

You don’t have to be Michelangelo to enter either, your cartoon can use stick men, wax crayons or finger painting for all we care. As long as you’ve an awesome idea, we’re happy. Why don’t we care about your artistry? Well check out the prize details below!

The winning entry will have their middle three panels drawn by our professional artist to form the completed comic strip. We’ll then get that artwork signed, framed and then sent to you as a one-off and totally exclusive piece of RuneScape memorabilia. Not only that, but we’ll also be throwing in six months of RuneScape membership for your account to boot. We’ll also be having two runner-up prizes, who will both receive six months of RuneScape membership each as well! Epic doesn’t even cover it.”

If you’re thinking of entering then we wish you the very best of luck.

In the meantime, have a great weekend!

Paul M

Lend me your pointy-green/Dragon Med-covered ears! Your world renowned MMO Life team have joined forces with Jagex, the makers of RuneScape.com, in order to bring you a RuneScape-themed competition the likes of which has never been seen before!

You don’t have to be Michael-Angelo to enter either, your cartoon can use stick men, wax crayons or finger painting for all we care. As long as you’ve an awesome idea, we’re happy. =) Why don’t we care about your artistry? Well check out the prize details below!

The winning entry will have their middle three panels drawn by our professional artist to form the completed comic strip. MMOhub have kindly given the Jagex Community Management folks some accounts on which they can post on our forums. So expect to hear plenty from them over the course of the competition - they’ll be around at regular intervals in order to respond to any questions you might have and they’ll even have their resident artist dropping by for a Q&A session early on in the proceedings!

So in summary - here’s what we want from you, along with the rules:

1. Pick one of the three comic strip scenarios, come up with the most amusing way of joining the first and last panels, and draw them in.

2. Make sure your comics are in JPG format ONLY!

3. Submit them to contests@mmolife.org beginning Saturday, October 10th until 11:59pm PT, Friday,October 30th. No entries will be accepted after the said date!

4. Entries must be all your own work. The smallest hint of plagiarism will disqualify the entry.

5. Participants of the contest can send as many entries as they can. However, members can only win ONCE.

6. This competition is exclusively for members of MMOhub.org. Please put “RuneScape Comic” in the subject field of your email and attach your JPG comic in it. The body of the email must include your MMOhub login name and your RuneScape username. Please do not upload your comic through an external image hosting site or anywhere else.

7. All entries must comply with the terms of service for both MMOhub.org and RuneScape.

8. The 1st place winner will be required to provide MMO Life and Jagex with a valid postal address and the recipient’s name whereby the prizes can be physically shipped. We will assume all responsibility for the shipment costs and insurance of the 1st place prize.

9. Prizes will be awarded the first week of November, 2009. All winners should receive their prizes (including 6 month free membership) before the completion of November, 2009 at the latest.

Any and all entries submitted will be considered the property of MMOhub.org and Jagex, and thus have the legal right to publish as they deem fit.

Good Luck!

Looks like my friend Laieta is certainly joining in... I am not sure if I am going to enter this contest.

I think I would use the Sir Fails-A-Lot template however.

These templates lack potential.

EDIT: The use of monologue reminds me of Silver age comics

Looks fun. I may have done it had I not had exams starting up althought the prize is of no use to me. I just enjoy art :)

The panels also will make which ever art style you use, look out of place between the two other panels. I agree that their isn't much scope for imagination in these ones.
