MechScape World > MechScape / Stellar Dawn > MechScape / Stellar Dawn General
Ren
Back when we first heard of Henrique's departure I said:

I guess the question now is whether the Head of MechScape job will go to an existing Jagex employee (e.g. Janaway - who I think would be awesome) or an external applicant.

It's possible that the answer lies in the latest update of the Jagex credits list: http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/jagex#credits

Alex Janaway (who we interviewed back when he was Associate Producer of MechScape) has been named as a Head of Content (next to Christoph V who is Head of Content for RuneScape). Congratulations to Alex on his new role, which I presume to be the Head of Stellar Dawn. Whether this is a permanent or temporary (acting) position for Mod Captain I do not know as there has been no official announcement yet.

Congratz Alex and good luck.

Excellent, appointed from within, so hopefully some continuity will follow and they won't feel like going back a stage or two and ripping things apart too much.

He did an icould video too, his mod name appears to be Mod Captain.
Max
Wow, Ren you transcended past resourced and foretold the future, maybe.

Cheers for new Jagex head of MS/SD (whoever they may be!)
jmb
I compared today's list with one on 29 Sept.

There are now two people in each of the top jobs, on 29/9 there was only one, so possibly the appointments are also linked to this one?

Lead Designer - Graham B has been added
Senior Technical Developer - Adam B has been added

These two people were listed in the content development team before.
Ren
I heard about Graham B's promotion back in June but it seems like they've only just updated the credits to reflect this.

It's possible that Graham B has been working on MechScape for a long time. Note these comments from December 2007:

this site is really interesting!

do you think we could work out which people have been moved and what they have done on runescape by looking at the credits lists for quests and things from the knowledgebase?

the recent summoning develpoment diary said
QUOTE
"Mod Bennett had recently finished the Slayer skill (January 2005), so started on the design brief for Summoning as a skill, laying out how it would work," says Mod Mark. The concept was good, but it didn't fit in with what we were doing with the rest of the game. Considering the other content we were working on and that the game was growing, we decided that first concept for Summoning wouldn't have a broad enough appeal. So, after another few months break and a move to larger offices, we approached it from a different angle - widening the scope of the skill to make it as good as it could be.

A dedicated follower

"That's when ideas like the beasts of burden came in. It was at this point that the skill name changed to Animal Lore," says Mod Mark. The core idea being that these summoned animals would do more than just fight for you. "We were also thinking Animal Lore would be to Hunter, what Smithing is to Mining," he continues - you'd either catch and train up animals or call them out of the wild to aid you. Mod Bennett had since moved to another of our development teams, so Mod Wilson was given the task of writing a new design brief from scratch, taking this more follower-based approach.

so it might be the person who develpoed slayer working on it???

are there any otherpeople whove worked on runescape working on it do you think? it might let us get an idea what the game might be like if we look at their previous work, although the only develpoer whos got named is oscar and i couldnt find anything hes done on runescape by looking at the credits

Interesting that it says that senior developer Mod Bennett was moved to a different team, as Graham B[ennett] is still listed as being part of a Content Team in the credits. But which content team, I wonder.

Note: Graham Bennett was one of the earliest Jagex employees and has been there since September 2002. Back on the old list of employees (then only 13) he was credited as doing Customer Support. He then moved onto Games Tester, Developer, Senior Developer and is now Lead Designer.

They were probably given a goods months notice or something like that to prepare for the switch. No doubt taking someone with a lot of experience on the inside will keep MechScape well on its way. As it sounds from Ren he as been working on this for a while so hopefully there is no bump back in time. Sad to see someone leave from the team though. One less.

Sign him up to our forums. :) (Like Heinrique was) Perhaps he will release the game sooner than we expected.

Mr. Captain,
I am calling you to attend our unique forums, to sign up, and enjoy them... And perhaps take suggestions from some of our loyal forumers. We would like to have you around, to take the place of Henrique in these forums, and hope you do choose to join.

Hoping everything goes well,

Very happy to here that they've promoted from within, instead of hiring someone totally new. I was afraid of a 'bungee boss' type scenario ("Hi I'm your new boss let's change everything before I get reassigned wait too laaaaate...")
jmb
bungee boss, thats brilliant, love it!

I'm sorry, but I don't find this really any good. Until we know what the hell is it exactly that happened to Olifiers, I cannot say that I'm pleased with these news. Perhaps even then, I can't be pleased with these news. Who knows.

Fact is, Jagex needs to tell us what the heck is going on there!

Thank you

I don't understand your point Dj iceman, as much as we all would like to know what caused the leave of Henrique, it could of been personal reasons and if it was that then he probbably gave a notice to give Jagex enough time to plan their steps for MS/SD. i doubt that MS/SD will be slowed down by any of this, as to me it seems we can hope MS/SD will be out by 2011
HollowaysEve
I remember Henrique Ollifers saying, "I've finnaly completed my game and I feel accomplished like I'm walking in the clouds" I think it's odd that he just leaves all of the sudden.

I think this is the video...

Alex Janaway is now listed in the credits as "Associate Producer" (which is the role he said he had back in April) instead of "Head of Content". He used to be credited as "Content Development Team Leader".
