Guys, this isn't real. Picture hasn't been edited. Here's some hints.
People are giving waaaaay more complicated solutions to making this... I just loaded it up in notepad, guys.
Another edit... Guys, I really wasn't trying to, or expecting to, fool anybody.
... Guys, I wasn't trying to make a good fake. I meant this as a joke, but you guys just keep posting... O_o

As I have said, The picture has not been edited. If I were in court, I would say the same thing, as it is the truth. I prnt-scrn'd it and copy pasta'd into paint so I could CTRL+S as .PNG. I'm sure some guys in /b/ can tell by the pixels that it's real.

Doubt it. Not even the highest of the high can get Jagex to reveal their release dates.

Ah, durrrr. I see.
Firebug?
It says "Mod Alistair" at the top left, but ends with "Regards, Gerhard". I thought that was noticeable.
Whatever, nice fake.

I don't know what firebug is, but notepad is pretty fun.
... I honestly didn't expect this to rile up anybody. There will never be any "real" MechScape pictures for awhile, except for mods talking about it in forum and in RS, the surgery rooms (possibly) and the logos they copyrighted.

Ritter, it is not the wrong font. Flaming fail - I loaded this in notepad, and changed the text. If the font is different from messages you received, than that is a browser option you have changed.

We originally planned to release it on Christmas, but we decided against it - People might view it as religiously biased. So, we'll wait until February or something.
Jagex doesn't work on Chrismas. Also the next four paragraphs all started with "Anyways" which doesn't sound professional.

Not in english.
Yeh, I don't think many people fell for that.
1. They wouldn't give release info to players like that. Half the staff don't know any details about the project, let alone players.
2. Why would Mark use someone elses account?
Not good..

Messages sent to me by Jagex are confidential.
The contests of those messages are confidential.
Neither confidentiality rules have been broken.

The first rule of faking a message from Jagex is to not use crappy grammar skills.
The second rule is to not reveal too much information, as it is considerably more believable if the information is a little hint or a subtle riddle.
The third rule is timing. More people will believe you if the fake is brought out the day after a large amount of information is released. They get their hopes up for more more more, and you hand feed them more with what they cry for.
