Whilst looking at my calendar for next year and reading a recent interview with jagex about MechScape I made an assumption that if MS does launch early next year this time, then the very earliest it could launch would be January 4th.
Why? New year's eve 2009 will be a thursday. Most of the jagex eployees will most likely be pissed as they celebrate the coming of a new year, so they will have big hangovers on new year's day (friday) and won't make it to work. then the 2nd and 3rd of January will will be a weekend.
It's very unlikely that the offices will be open on weekends. That leaves the 4th open for a BETA release.
Comments anyone?

I once did an entire programming assignment whilst drunk.. I don't even remember doing it..
and guess what? I got 100% and a personal thumbs up from my lecturer
This was also part of a psychological research for a very good friend of mine.. he is currently doing his PhD

Let's hope they get even more drunk of Friday and go to work only to decide to release the BETA.
We should send them a wine-gift from MSW to the offices. :)

Um... well, you clearly put a lot of thought into this theory.

But I doubt MechScape will be released that early in the year.

they started the game on january 2006.
Seems logical to me to release a game in 4 years.

Not sure if that's a reasonable estimate or not. Sounds about right though, I guess. I gave up trying to guess when it was coming out. Earlier this year, in January, I was telling all of my friends that MechScape was going to be out soon, and that we should get ready. Now their asking me, "Didn't you say that it was going to be out a few months ago?". So yeah, I really don't know.

Four years sounds like a reasonable amount of time to invest in game creation before launch. It's what WOW, SWTOR, LOTRO, EQ1&2, and countless others did. And it worked for them. So yes, Four years is a good amount of time.

But they started from scratch. MechScape started with a well-developed game engine to work off of, along with all their experience with making RuneScape. To say MS should take as long as the games we're comparing to isn't really fair. In theory, it shouldn't be taking nearly as long as it is, but we apparently have a wishy-washy dev team who have convinced Mod MMG that it's "awesome" to be making changes at the last minute. That's not awesome. That's the first step on the long and twisty road to Developmental Hell

Modifying is a lot easier and less time consuming than a ground up development.. I recall that Jagex built their own tools and engines from the ground up and I expect new development tools to be made for mechscape.
Mechscape will be released on Dec 22nd 2012. Oops looks like we won't see the day.

Yeah but this game isn't a big of a project (at least I don't think) as WoW or other major MMO's. If anything this game should take a little bit less time considering it's run on Java. We've gotten a few goodies here and there and it's about time we get some more information on the game. We've lost Olifiers and he was a great asset to us when it came to acquiring information. Now who do we rely on? Employees who leak information? Which we know doesn't happen.

We just ask snape to make a truth serum and give it to one of the employees who are making mechscape and he/she will leak us everything ^_^
On a more serious note, its their game .They release info when they feel like it and not when we feel like it.
Jagex needs to stop cocking around and release the damn game.

Look all this about release dates is mostly inaccurate. No-one knows enough about the release date and the production of MechScape.
People have been saying that the release date is too late because Jagex said that the game is finished and playable. This has now brought up an argument between some people stating that it is way too late. Jagex's decision to release the game next year is to make sure that the game has no glitches and is fully functioning. So give it time and the game may get released a little earlier.
Thankyou

Most people know this but don't want to believe it. They just have to be patient and do something else until the game is released instead of F5-ing mechscape.com and stellardawn.com. There's more to life than gaming... something more and more people are forgetting.

Can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but the first version of Runescape was released as a beta on 4th January 2001. I can picture it now, 9 years to the day, they first release Mechscape as a beta. Pretty awesome, but Jagex probably won't do it.

Predicting the games release with the amount of trails that employer and employees have left behind is near on impossible. It's fine to go and make a prediction, but you could pretty much choose most days in the next following years and Jagex Games Studios still wouldn't budge with a release date or even get to the beta phase. Honestly though, by making a prediction you are single-handedly hyping yourself up for a moment that is almost certain not to exist. You are just bringing yourself down, it's released whenever.

That has to be pure co-incidence. Mechscape/Stellar Dawn has taken longer to create (i think?

My families first computer was a Windows ME, and we still have it now (my brother is trying to sell it). Anyway, I believe that Jagex probably wouldn't release the game that early in the year, though it is possible considering the release date of Runescape and the fact that it would be just after the weekend. I think that Mechscape is more than likely going to be released halfway through next year, but as long as it is awesome as they wanted it to be when they release it, I'm not bothered.
