The naruto one is my favourite, but the quality is a bit messed up with the render :(

Oh wow, haha. This is
really anonymous, considering people have their name on the signatures

hmmmm i like the naruto one best for some reason but i kinda think if jagex puts it on there sence its copyrighted they might get sued =(
Flatypus
Sep 20 2009, 06:47 PM
Don't worry, these forums aren't run by Jagex, and I doubt that the maker of the signature is going to be sued. It's just a little picture. I think the maker of the render would applaud the maker of the signature, not bring him to court. Think of it as fan-art

I think that in the future, signatures entered which have the contestant's name or watermark on it shouldn't be allowed to enter. It will just turn into a popularity contest.

Maybe the winner should choose the next SOTW's theme?
And they wouldn't be allowed to enter it because they won the last one?
Tom
Sep 20 2009, 07:51 PM
At the moment we will be choosing the themes ourselves. Soon we will be allowing users to pick though.
Can I ask that all SOTW suggestions go
here. Please keep this thread to discussion about this week's entries and themes only, thanks.

Kay, sorry about that :(
Unin... Is that a signature?
Matt
Sep 20 2009, 08:17 PM
I don't really care if people put their names in their sigs, text ruins a sig anyways.

Sep 20 2009, 08:18 PM
Hell yeah! its just.. over....la....uhm..big.
Matt
Sep 20 2009, 08:33 PM
Unin's is large art ... It would be too big to be considered a sig.

Allowing signatures with creators' names and over the size limit shows a lack of foresight.

There was not a rule about text or size limit.

Sep 21 2009, 03:56 AM
You're correct. The conditions under which the contest was created was intended to prevent it becoming a popularity contest rather than a measure of (subjective) skill, allowing signatures with their artists' names to be included is counter-intuitive to this. Size is less of an issue, but there are currently no guidelines as to what should be considered a suitable size, under the current rules I could create and enter a 1000*1000 image.
Tom
Sep 21 2009, 06:33 AM
Right now this is a freestyle theme so I'm going to relax the rules. Next time they will be inforced so signatures will be smaller and not text will be allowed.

He's right.
Also, showing everyone the current entries is silly even if there isn't a name on them. It totally deters people from entering because as soon as a really good sig is put up, everyone else will go "Well now I've seen that, there is no point in entering because this person will win anyway."
I guess we learn from our mistakes.
Tom
Sep 21 2009, 12:25 PM
Thanks for pointing this out John.
I apolgoise to everybody for mistakes e.t.c, But this is a W.I.P project and is not perfect.
In future please discuss problems/ideas for the SOTW contest in the Signature Contest info sticky in this forum.

I guess you are right
But I don't just enter to win, I like making siggies. If I win, awesome. If I don't, thats cool with me baby
Agh Matt's been banned
Does he get disqualified? His siggy was really cool :(

Since mine is dead obvious, i want to apology for adding text but i didn't know it was not allowed, i actually didn't want to add text but though that you needed to. toke me lots of time trying to get a good text which in the end didn't work so used simple :).
i know this should be in the discusions thread but i think that sigs should not have names but can have text if it's related to the sig and that sigs are not show until it's voting time as like jonh said people will be put off and ideas might get stolen which would cause big rackets.
"You stole my idea"

I've always been a fan of signituremaker's signatures.

How do you make a signature?
All you need to make a signature is picture editing software and some artistic talent. The type of picture editing software depends on what kind of signature you want to make. You can use Microsoft paint if you're interested in pixeling, but if you're interested in making signatures like the ones that were entered in this contest, Photoshop, Paint.net, and The Gimp are good choices.

Do they have to be entirly ours?
Like pics? do they haaave to be ours?
Or we can take a picture and edit it?
WAIT! 4 hours left?!!??
Guess ill have to quickly find a picture and edit it my best.

You can take a render and make a background and put it together and experiment with it and you get a basic signature. Try not to just slap on a render- Basically what I did for my entry here, and I don't really like it.
So is it voting time?
Tom
Sep 26 2009, 03:51 PM
Entries are now closed. To vote please fill out the following form and PM it to me:
CODE
Your name:
Which signature are you voting for? 1, 2, 3 e.t.c
Your reason for voting for this signature:
This form is to stop random people signing up and voting for their freinds e.t.c Please supply a valid reason for voting for that signature otherwise the vote will not be counted.
You may not vote for yourself.
Signatures will have a number added next to them, put this number onto the form.
Votes are due in by 3rd October before 5PM.
I will be putting up the new contest soon.

Is there any rule on submitting old works? I personally think you should have to make a new one per topic as I find it kind of silly that some people just submitted their current signatures which are quite old.
Perhaps something else to consider in the future... :)
EDIT: I personally think a Poll would be the best way to vote. Is there a way to make the poll results invisible to all except the topic poster even after you've voted? That'd work well.

The calender says there will be a new competition started today. Is this how its going to work, or are we going to finish voting first then start a new competition?

I discussed with the other SOTW managers and we agreeded the PM system will be the best. Simply because we know who is voting and who for..
