The third installment of my story, Outbreak.

---

Present Day

I walked down a dark city street, my left leg dragging behind me from a break.. My green arms were outstretched forward, trying to grab something that wasn’t there. I turn a corner and watch as they run away from me, looks of horror on their faces. I keep chasing after the crowd, but I was too slow. As I dragged myself around another corned I saw that a person had tripped and hit their head. They were out cold. I went up to the person and a ghastly moan escaped my mouth. I slowly reached down and grabbed their head……

I woke with a start, covered in sweat and panting loudly. I checked my left leg. No break there. I looked over my entire body, no green skin. I realized it had all been a dream. I laid back down in relief. As I laid there I realized I was in bedclothes. I realized in the horror of my dream I had been completely oblivious to my surroundings. I sat up and surveyed the room. It looked like I was in a hospital bed, with an I.V. pumping fluids into my arm. It was a circular room, with only one door and no windows. I had no idea what could have put me here, the last I could remember was waking up one morning. How long had I been asleep? Hours? Days? As I thought about this a doctor walked in the door. He was tall, about 6 feet, and had dark hair. He had glasses on and was looking at a notepad and seemed surprised to see me awake.

“Hi,” he said, “My name’s Doctor Wakefield. It seems you had a pretty bad fall last week. Feeling any better?”

"Last week? What happened to me?”

“Well,” he replied, “The vaccine you took had unforeseen side effects, and it seems you were the only one to get them. It somehow affected the luminosity of your blood, making it glow red. Your heart wasn’t used to the new blood and it reacted by shutting down. Luckily, we shocked you back and everything checks out. Other than a bump on the head and glowing red veins for the rest of your life you’ll be fine.”

Oh great. I get to be the freak of the town with the glowing blood. “Well I feel fine. Has the outbreak stopped yet?”

“Well, it seems that most of the vaccines had live cells instead of dead ones, contaminating everyone who got them. Luckily you, along with five other people, got the dead ones. Everyone who got the cure is fine though.”

No wonder Llewsac was giving them free. They either wanted to spread the virus or were careless in making the vaccine. What was going on here?

I told Dr. Wakefield thanks for everything and that I’d come in a month from then for a checkup. As I navigated my way out of the hospital I noticed it nearly deserted. As I rounded the corner to the main entrance I noticed two police officers walk in. They both looked bulky, like henchmen from all those old Holo-comics. They seemed to be looking around for the front desk. “Idiots,” I thought, “It’s right in front of you.”

As I made my way toward the entrance they suddenly grabbed my arms and threw me on the ground.

“Andrew Turner, you are being arrested for the murder of Arthur Llewsac.”

I am quite interested to see where this is going...

Mind of a zombie! But personally, I would have made the first person perspective of a zombie different.
