Full Version: Demon's Souls
MechScape World > Community > Other Games
EliteZeon
Well, this is a game I've been tracking down for some time, I am really interested in it.

A PS3 Exclusive, made by From Software, (creators of Armored Core, Tenchu, King's Field, Enchanted Arms, etc...) and being published to Europe and America by Atlus.

Demon's Souls is the spiritual sucessor of King's Field. It takes place in a Dark-Fantasy setting with the custom player facing off against challenging foes.
QUOTE
Demon's Souls is an open-ended dark fantasy action RPG. Players are able to customize their own characters, setting the name, gender, hair style and other characteristics. Players face off against enormous beasts, making use of a variety of different weapons. The gameplay alters depending on what type of weapon the player wields. When utilizing the bow and arrow, the camera enters a close over-the-shoulder view. There are also various forms of magic that can be used in a defensive or offensive manner.

Online features

* Co-operative play allows three players to team up and play through different levels in the game.
* In Messaging/Educational mode, players can leave hints and advice in the game to help out other players.
* In competitive play, a player can force themselves into another player's adventure and play as their opponent

The player can choose between ten different classes of characters, each with different starting attributes:

* Knight: Southern knights of Boletaria, strong and heavily armored.
* Priest: Warriors of the priesthood, they have faith in God and use miracles.
* Thief: Work under the cover of darkness, specialize in sneaking up behind enemies.
* Magician: Masters of magic, they have poor physical offensive and defensive skills.
* Temple Knight: Strong warriors that use defensive miracles to their advantage.
* Soldier: Skilled in combat, able to handle many types of weapons.
* Wanderer: Low armor, but fast and agile. Skilled with swords.
* Barbarian: Uncivilized people without armor, physically strong.
* Royal: Aristocratic users of offensive magic, starts with valuable magic rings.
* Hunter: Specialize in outdoor activities, skilled with bows, light on armor.

Reception
The game was received fairly well by Japanese media and gamers. Dengeki scored the game 95/85/85/85, Famitsu gave it a more mixed review with the scores 9/7/7/6. The game sold 39,966 copies in its first week in Japan, and also reportedly boosted PS3 sales in the region.

Famitsu reviewer Paint Yamamoto, rated the game 9: "This is a game you learn how to play by losing -- you'll face sudden death frequently. But! Keep playing... and you'll realize how deep it really is. If you're looking to experience rich RPG elements, by all means play Demon's Souls!!."

Famitsu "casual" reviewer Maria Kichiji rated the game 6 "It's super-difficult... 'Souls' are needed for everything from shopping to power ups, and the entire game is unforgiving. Even worse, there are almost no hints. Demon's Souls is far too stoic... it's not a game for everybody."

Even though the game is not released yet outside Asia, some western gaming sites have reviewed the Asian import version of the game.
The reviews have been favorable overall. Eurogamer scored the game 9/10, and reviewer Keza MacDonald wrote "It's stoic, uncompromising, difficult to get to know, but also deep, intriguingly disturbed and perversely rewarding. You can learn to love Demon's Souls like few other games in the world. But only if you're prepared to give yourself over to it.". RPGFan gave Demon's Souls 84%, and PixelVerdict gave it 5/5.

This game plans to come to Europe and America in October 6th.

Some people don't like the music for some reason confused.gif ... personally I love it, since it makes me think of classic Japanese Monster Movies.

I'm getting that I think. Hurry up White knight chronicles! I like the co op online too. Music not a problem for me, sounds more classical to me.
Jomihkie
I'll definitely be trying it out.

That looks really cool, like a mixture of Oblivion and resident evil. Being japanese I thought it would instantly be corny and anime-ish, but this looks like a deep, quality game.
Explosion
i wanna try this out :D
