It was dark, nothing around but the cold pinch of the air around the boy. He tried to move his arm but it was too cold for his nerves to react. He looked from side to side. Then a creak and a prickly feeling touched the boy’s cheek. The feeling went from prickly to painful, and a distant voice sung faint words.
“No death, no life, but pain.”
The boy heard it over and over again. Then there was a ear shattering explosion and the boy was relieved of his pain and sorrow. Only a sweet bliss filled his ever so scorched body. It was his time. He’d been chosen.

Andy was on his way to school. It was a beautiful morning, the air was crisp. The birds were singing and everything seemed the way it should be. He was cheerfully walking along the path to the bus stop. Which wasn’t too far from his house, perched on a hill in Napier. The house was big and white and looked like the owners were rich. Andy’s life had been a treat. He got anything he wanted, whenever it pleased him. Besides school. His parents would nag to him.
“No Andy, you have to go to school. We all had to go, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t.”
Andy didn’t have alot of friends. He had one good friend called Kyle, who was dead in some mysterious explosion off the coast of Hawke’s Bay, every 8th March he went to Kyle’s grave to remember him. Andy was almost at the bus stop now, but it seemed like it wasn’t there. He stopped. Squinted his eyes and look forward, there wasn’t a bus stop at all. Must have gone the wrong way he thought, so he trekked his way back to the side of the road. He looked up. He was on the road he should be. Remora Rd. He turned around and walked back the way he came. After about 5 minutes of walking Andy gave up. There was no bus stop or cars. Not even a house in sight. The only way to get to town was through the forest, and Andy knew what could happen if he goes through the forest. His mum and dad always told him. “Never ever go through the forest, lots of people go in, never come out, your uncle Stew went through. And he never came out.” Andy eyed the forest with suspicion, and thought to himself Stuff it, it’s the only way.

Andy walked towards the edge of the forest. As he neared the forest, Sounds of the trees where breaking the silence. He slowly walked in and gulped as he stepped into the wide expanse of the forest. He hesitated looked back towards the long gone bus shelter, then looked back at the forest, and took his first step. When his foot touched the edge of the forest something from under sucked him towards the ground, he fell and started screaming, as he got pulled down even further he started screaming
“FUCK! Get me out!”
Andy started scratching at the grass and then the bark and then a feeling of nothingness filled him. All that he felt was the cold pinch of the air around him, then something prickly touched his face, and in the distance a voice started chanting “No death, no life, but pain.” The voice got closer and closer until Andy could feel the breath of the voice on his neck, Andy started kicked and punching but his arms and legs wouldn’t react, his eyes were starting to get used to the dark and there was a black outline standing right in front of him, waving something above his head, it glistened. Andy screamed and forced his leg to swing out. His leg reacted and hit the figure; Andy then heaved his freezing body off the floor and crawled with all of his strength to the crack of light. The figure started to get back up. “Come back here!” it shouted. Andy started swearing and shouting at the figure slowly edging his way to him. Andy screamed and screamed and kept crawling, faster and faster, but it was no use the crack was too far away. Andy turned back around. The figure was in front of him. Holding his weapon above his head. “Goodbye Andy.” Andy let out a fatal scream as the weapon fell onto Andy.
Andy was the next to be chosen.
Just finished.
