It seems that Stellar Dawn is the new name for Jagex's upcoming sci-fi MMO codenamed MechScape. Ever since I announced that Jagex had registered the trademark Stellar Dawn in early February (here) there have been rumours that it might be the new name for MechScape. These discussions died down a bit when Jagex made the domain forward to FunOrb.com, but flared again when whovian39 reported that in late June Mod Korpz said that Stellar Dawn wasn't a FunOrb game (source). This was a claim which Korpz apparently repeated at a live Q&A further adding to the suspicions (source).

The RuneScape client, which seems to be shared with MechScape, was recently updated for RuneTek 5. In old versions of the client when run in a specific manner it would state that "MechScape is loading" instead of "RuneScape is loading". However, it now states:

I'm sure a lot of us were expecting this. It's a good name, and it sets the new game apart from RuneScape even more. This will likely draw in new faces, instead of leaching off RuneScape's community.

Even though I did kinda think it wouldn't be a good website name, I think you should stick to something similar to your old name so the site stays recognizable and not a totally new site.

They'll probably just have mechscapeworld.com redirect to stellardawnworld.com I would.

I am quite disappointed to the see the Stallar dawn is loading bit. I wanted Stallar Dawn/Mechscape to be COMPLETELY different to runescape. I wanted it to of been like it was from another company with nothing looking the same. Seems like this wont happen.

Good name, but its main flaw is that it sounds a lot like a woman's name.

I'm so used to MechScape being said but now it is Stellar Dawn. It is going to take a bit to sort of get rid of that habit, saying MechScape. I believe this would lead us to changing our domain name and everything but we haven't decided if we are and what order of things we might do. I believe the sooner the better but it will be very difficult to know.

ehh I personally believe mechscape would be a nicer name, stellar dawn just doesnt sound like a fun game, mechscape gives the idea of space, and the mmo perspective of runescape. So Idk about the rest of you but I would much rather have it be called Mechscape.

If it's called mechScape then all the people who hate RuneScape will immediately just think "oh, that's just RuneScape with Mechs, it'll suck for sure". This name avoids that.

Well, actually Stellar Dawn is very appropriate for a MMO name. Stellar relates to something that is with stars. Dawn relates to the beginning of space travel or other related tasks that are related to sci-fi. Jagex stated that MechScape wasn't descriptive enough to consider it because the name doesn't describe the game. You might like MechScape but that most likely has to do with it being related to RuneScape or having used it for so long.

Or the dawn of the 4X MMORPG genre.

I really think that MSW (or should I say SDW) had something to do with this since a lot of us said we liked the name for Mechscape and we know Jagex likes to keep their eye on us.
