Full Version: In-House Lawyer vacancy?

Well, after a bit of rain, sea and sand I'm back. Anywho, I was browsing the Jagex website earlier and found this vacancy:

QUOTE
Jagex Ltd, the UK’s leading independent online games studio, is looking for a dynamic, self-starting IT/IP lawyer.

I decided I'd check this out, since it's not every day Jagex recruits an in-house lawyer. After a bit of digging (well, clicking on MORE INFO, actually), I found THIS page.

Reading into it, the conclusion I've drawn is that MS is indeed 'close'. They wouldn't hire a lawyer if they didn't need to, right? After all, they salary is up to 50k!!

Or, what I've just typed could be complete and utter tosh. Anyway, what does anybody else think?

If you are talking about yourself wanting the job then I think you should go for it. That is great pay and would most probably be a good job for you.

Thanks.

I remember posting about this last July, guess it hasn't been filled yet. My thoughts are that it could be as much about their intention to get into the mobile phone and console markets as the release of MechScape (e.g. responsibility for "Provision of expert advice on drafting and negotiating a wide variety of digital media, technology and commercial agreements").

I'm not a lawyer... Imagine me as a lawyer biggrin.gif

So it's been around since July... It could be something to do with the console market, like you said. I wonder what RuneScape would be like on a mobile phone... laugh.gif. Still, it could be possible, if you wanted to use all of the space on your phone.

Its for funorb is it not? Every interview with MMG he mentions getting IP for old games as a possible avenue for making new funorb games, the hiring of the sensible soccer guy is in the same vein.

Well, they are a big company. It isn't that suprising tongue.gif
What gets me is that they haven't got one yet :s
Jagex don't do much advertising though. Most of it is word of mouth or they use social networking sites.

Guys please stay on topic.

As for the lawyer, I've seen that up since July as well. It most likely has to deal with exactly what Ren said. The mobile market is a very tricky area as each company has their own api's and gears in them as well as having to get the application approved as well on many phones.
