I think the new skill may have something to do with sailing or exploration or something like that, but it will also have something to do with ThirdScape, the cancelled MMO and could be the rumored Eastern Lands. What I don't think is that it is sailing at all.

What really ticks me off is that Members actually do get advertisments until they log in. They should change it back. I thought Jagex weren't about the money

I see waves. The way the castle is situated makes me think it is a stormy sea with rough waves and a castle on a cliff overlooking the sea.

They just changed it because the new update. Nothing interesting really.
MMG has publicly stated that Sailing would never be introduced as a skill in runescape. There is even a screeny of him saying it.
There's about a 2% chance Sailing will be the NEXT skill and this "proof" you've provided is off-the-charts in ridiculousness. When I look at this topic, it just screams spam at me.

Gerhard did say that Sailing would "never" be released, but later answered to someone's question that what he said was a joke and that he's not sure about Sailing being made into a skill. So it's not that the skill is shunned or anything by MMG, it's just that they haven't really even touched the subject of Sailing yet as a skill.

I knew as soon as I saw the waves that suddenly everyone would be like "LAWL SAILING WIN."
No, MMG stated Sailing would never be a skill and the button only shows an ocean. For all we know the skill could be scuba diving.

Its not water, and I'm pretty sure the image has been like that for a very long time, its just bigger now.
In the latest Q&A andrew said hes one of the few people who thinks sailing would work, if they were working on sailing that would certainly not be the case. They would never work on an update until they had a plan that convinced everyone it would work.

I don't think the next skill will be sailing but I do think it will be related somewhat.
I think it will be Exploration!
I was formerly a strong believer of sailing BEFORE the hype/faked picture. After Jagex said it would not be the next skill I reavaluated the evidence and came up with Exploration. It includes Archaeology, sailing, raiding, spelunking, etc all rolled up into one skill of uber awesomeness.
The picture does give some credence to a water-based skill. I might add that as evidence assuming they keep it for a few months.

Its really not water, you can even see a dirt path on the right side and left of "click" is obviously not water cause its too ridged. Plus the so called water is higher than the castle.

I wish people would get over the fact that sailing is not the new skill. Is it possible for 13 year olds to broaden their minds and possibly comprehend that there ARE other possibilities for a new skill that do NOT involve water?
I see hills, rocks, castle and fog. Maybe it isn't a hint to a skill, maybe it's a new land to explore, being added in with the new skill?

I think there are rocks at the beginning, after the rocks there is water, and after the water there is a castle
that is rocks, ground, and grass. Also in one of the qa answers a mod said the new skill is not sailing. they said its way better.
It looks to me like theres somone looking out to sea and i dont think thats proof really :/

its gettin sad now. If you're looking at EVERY little detail , then you have issues.
Even J Mods are joking about it and making fun of it, it's not going to be a new skill.
To be fair on speed when they do add things like this, usually it is for a reason. Look at the MA background for instance. Whilst I don't think it is sailing, there would have been some reason for adding it.
It has been confirmed that sailing is failing as a skill. Just drop it.
