As well all know MechScape could be released any day. Be it 1 day or 1 year from now.
It is therefore essential that for any chance to participate in the closed beta I must posess either RuneScape or FunOrb membership BEFORE the beta begins.
I play RuneScape every now and then. I enjoy it, I ENJOYED it. I have had membership on RuneScape for the entire time I have been playing. For me I cannot imagine playing without Membership.
I have reached a point in my life where RuneScape as a game and Jagex as a company simply don't cut it. RuneScape's 3 updates a month policy (1 large and 2 small) seems to have gone out of the window. I haven't seen an update worth paying for since the end of 2008. Jagex as a company have dissapointed me in many ways, I will however not go into this as it is irrelavan at this point.
I long for an MMO which is much more immersive. Being a SCI-FI boffin I decided, about 2-3 months ago, to give EVE Online a try.
I signed up for the trial and created an account. It was an unusual experience. Having never played a game like EVE before it was enjoyable yet I was unsure.
All things must come to an end as did my trial. I thought nothing of it.
Now, I find myself wondering. What would EVE be like if I could play it. If I didn't have the limitations of a Trial Account. I could have a much longer time to experience the game and to develop relationships.
I want to find out. I want to begin playing EVE so within a month or two I can say. Yes I enjoy this game more than others and I want to become a permanent member in this community.
Money has always been a problem and is still now. There is no way that I can afford membership to both RuneScape and EVE. EVE will be a bit of a struggle on its own.
So I am sure you see the problem. MechScape is potentially a better game than EVE. However currently I feel as if I am getting nothing out of RS membership.
Removing MechScape from the picture I would cancel my membership and begin playing EVE imminently. However, the truth remains that if I do this I will not have access to beta. We do not know how long the beta will last or the time between the release of this and MechScape itself.
I need advice. Preferably informed and sensible.
Please Help Me.
Also note that whatever the case I will remain a member of MechScape World. No decrease in posts will be shown.

If you really want access to the beta you could become a FunOrb member. FunOrb membership is only $3.00 a month, which is half of what RuneScape membership costs. (

The problem is, you think getting to beta test MechScape is a reward.
A professional video game tester plays video games all day, finds bugs, reports them, and gets payed for their services.
Now, consider yourself. You get to play a video game, find bugs, report them, and pay Jagex.
Some reward, right?

Jagex know they can squeeze money out of people for betas and sneak previews.
This worlds all wrong!!

Well remember that the beta may have a ton of bugs, and I don't think beta will give you much of an advantage considering characters will be cleared at the end of it. (To get rid of people's characters that used bugs to get an advantage)
Also, There's nothing stopping you from playing EVE until MechScape is out of beta or officially released.

I don't see the point in wanting to play the Beta so badly myself. It's a priviledge but the beta will not be nearly as good as the finished product and would probably just put you off the game.
I would just cancel my membership and begin playing EVE if i was in your shoes.

Doesn't EVE have virtual sex? That's about all I've heard about it.

Here is my point of view.
cancel your runescape membership, and get funorb membership as it is much cheaper.
download and play EVE (pay for it) if you can afford it after you get funorb instead, if you can't afford it....find a similiar game to play.
I have played runescape, wow, eve, everquest, anarchy online, silk road, dungeon seige, flyff, fiesta, rappelz, funorb, lunia, gunz, soliderfront and aion and I have realised one thing.
If you play a game (even with a trial and your are uncertain about the game) don't play it, as you are bound to quit (even if you have membership) within 1 - 2 weeks and start another game.
Well, thats what its like with me, lol.

Depends if you want a casual, or a hardcore mmo.
Jagex already confirmed that MechScape isn't "as hardcore as games like Eve Online"

If you really want to experience the Mechscape beta, I'd say buy membership for Funorb, Then play Eve. If you don't necessarily want to experience the mechscape beta (I know I don't) then just don't buy membership for either. I know that being a beta tester may seem fun, but it only contains you finding bugs for Jagex, and then all progress gets wiped after the beta testing is over. Much more rewarding to play the game when it is released completely.

Haha, no. That was Mass Effect.
And the "sex" in Mass Effect was nothing.

Hmm alot of posts.
The thing is for me EVE will cost like £13GBP a month, which for an MMO, is ludacris.
I therefore couldn't afford both. I'm a 16 year old kid who at the moment can't find a job anywhere. With the current economic decline in britain it makes paying for games somewhat difficult.
I really just don't want to find out that the BETA gets released and then I have to wait a whole other year to actually play it.
