Second of all, W00T!!! My Aquila IS the first confirmed Steel Sentinels fan-art.

Hi,
Elite your picture is epic! You also got in with the first Steel Sentinels submission. ^_^
Anyways, on to the point... The crew over at FunOrb is hosting a
Steel Sentinels Art Contest, it is worth a look-
QUOTE ( Mod Craddock Topic QFC - 39-40-17-36845)
Hi there,
To celebrate the launch of Steel Sentinels, we've decided to have a Steel Sentinels art contest. All you need to do is imagine a fun Mech and send a drawing of it to the FunOrb Gallery.
The email address for the FunOrb Gallery is funorb-gallery@jagex.com. Please clearly label your design as a Steel Sentinels - Mech Designer contest entry.
Please note that we're not planning on adding the designed Mech to Steel Sentinels, so your designs don't necessarily have to be realistic. Fun and crazy designs are welcome.
The artists behind Steel Sentinels will pick the winner and the winning designer will receive:
* Membership.
* A signed A4 Steel Sentinels poster.
* A FunOrb bag.
Please note that it's one Mech design per entrant. The closing date for the contest is the 1st of September. We look forward to receiving your designs. ^_^
Good luck. :)

I know I'm entering... but what to make?...

Congratz!
Not sure, maybe a mech looking towards us and have some rockets going in the direction of us.

Nice Job!
You should make something totally different. How about a Mech with wings?

Yeah, right now I am taking a look at many different Mech pictures for some inspiration... along with listening to music from Gundam and Macross... I am thinking of something similar to the Eva 01... crossed over with a transforming mech, like the Zeta Gundam or a general Macross Mech.

I too am entering this contest. My mech design is rooted in reality, and based off of practicality. I am looking at photo's of the Stryker APC, M-1 Abrams MBT, and a few other sources to get an idea of what to go for.
Basically, my mech will be on treads or multi-legged like a spider because a bipedal machine is more complex to produce, has a higher center of gravity and is therefore more vulnerable, and treads perform much better at crossing all types of terrain.
Either that or a hover mech because treads are too complex to draw XD

I can't say I'm particularly interested.
Except of the contents of the FunOrb bag, unless of course it is just a bag.

Oh shit. Do you think I can still win if I don't color it? I don't know how to use these new-fangled software thingies. I just do it all by hand.
It's probably just a bag. I think the winners should get a screen shot from mechscape though.

SS mechs are gunmetal grey, methinks it won't matter.

It probably won't matter if you colour it or not. As Hayaemsay said, Mechs are normally gun-metal Grey. However, if you do decide to colour it, don't colour it rainbow unless your design is really random. That will be stupid.
I like how it thinks I've written an error when I write "colour"(which is proper English) instead of "color" (which is American). I think spelling/grammar checks should just support both ways of spelling.

Alright, finally...
After about 10 different scrapped line-arts, I think I've finally made one satisfies me... had to scrap the berserk, intimidating head, however...

Show us the progress. Here is my progress so far. I think I got the design down, but I still have stuff to add before I think it's ready for editing and touching up. It's a hover craft.

Sorry for the watermarks, I am NOT going to let this one get stolen before I am done with it.
Yeah, it can transform... I'll finish the Fighter tomorrow... taking my time on this one. This is actually 33% of the actual size I am working with.
And Bladepaul, that is pretty awesome looking!I love the way you designed the weapons.

Wow, Elite, your mech looks awesome! And clean. I have to erase a lot because it takes me a million tries to get something right. Now to figure out how to color. You use GIMP right?
Edit: For some weapon ideas do a google search: Machine Cannon.

Aug 20 2009, 05:31 PM
Hehe thanks, all in the broken mouse strokes... eraser and airbrush tools ftw.
Yeah, I am using GIMP to create the line-art and to paint it up.
Bladepaul
Aug 20 2009, 06:04 PM
Mmk, where do I find this...GIMP?
I use photoshop to clean my stuff up but I don't know all of it's features so I am stuck erasing individual pixels for hours lol.
For your mech, personally, I would add some sort of heavier weapon on the shoulders. As an optional weapon maybe. Like one of those laser cannons they mount on Zaku's.
EliteZeon
Aug 20 2009, 06:07 PM
http://gimp.org/Eh, too lazy to give it a heavy cannon... because then I will have to redesign the Air-Craft form as well.
First, I should finish reading my Summer Assignment Book and do the essay, before working on again.

Done with the line-art! Whew... that aircraft design was much tougher than I thought...
The full zoom on this link is 64% of the actual size of what I am working with.
Now, time for the painting...

Zeon, I think you will probably win unless some other dude comes out of nowhere. Meanwhile, here's my design after I ran it through some filters to figure out a way to clean it up without having to redraw the whole thing. Lol I used plastic wrap to start with. Once I figure out how to use GIMP though....it's on!

Forgive me for the Double Post.
In anycase, I have finished my entry and sent it in already.

Just fixed it on my D-Art Submission... asking on the Official Forums if I could resend it...

Doesn't mean I will win. In the end it comes down to who has the better drawing. Think they will pick mine over yours? And probably several other people submitted great drawings.
I will see though. There is still time before September.

Winner announced...
Looks like I didn't win.
QUOTE ( Mod Craddock)
Hi there,
I can finally announce the winner. :) Sorry for the delay. The winning designer is Maelstorm6 for his Panther Sentinel. It was a close contest. Zarkith's Boulder Mech narrowly missed out on the top spot.
I'll be sending an inbox message to Maelstorm6 shortly. I'm also going to try and see if we can get the 10 best designs put up on our website somewhere.
Happy gaming. :)
Mod Craddock
I'm going be really disappointed in myself if I couldn't even make it to the top ten.
