After reading
MechScape Post #24 I had a thought.
We know ( i forget where from and exact wording) that Jagex stated that new things in Runescape have come from the development of Mechscape.
QUOTE
Through the concept art, we know that MechScape will have a more "Earthly" feel to it, as the game itself won't be completely in space. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if MechScape turns out to have very little to do with space combat.
If this is true ( and yes i understand it's not from Jagex) I suspect that something like the
Charter Ships which was introduced not to long ago will be used.
In fact if we look i am sure we could find other Runescape updates which could possibly come from the development of Mechscape.

If I recall correctly it is mostly technologies such as particle effects, not actual content.

I would prefer both. Moving around a whole world while being able to phsyically able to control my ship.

What if they added the ability to move in the atmosphere, not only along the ground like we do in rs.

That would make this quite difficult, as in some games there are forward backward left and right keys, using the arrow keys or the wasd setup, so they would need an up key. Does that make sense?
Its a good idea, but has too many concepts than I think its worth.

They have said that movement could involve both mouse and wasd, and that movement is totally redone from rs

In the game Perfect World, you move with the WASD, Mouse or Arrow Keys, and jump with the Space Bar... but, when you are on your Flying Mount, the Space Bar becomes *Fly Up* instead, or moving the Camera to face upward and moving forward will allow you to fly up.
So, Jagex may input something like this...

Aion has flying and it's not hard, you can control by auto run and facing the direction or by some other keys for up and down. I forgot which ones, I changed the keys so they are'nt the defaults.

You could also use WASD to fly around and mouse to change orientation similar to flying a helicopter in a first person shooter such as battlefield. And that makes sense because if we are to be flying around in the atmosphere I assume it's going to be in a fighter or craft of some sort in which case a mouse for pitch combined with a first person view is the most natural set up I can think of. Even if not in first person.
That, and I recall a concept picture that isn't officially mechscape but from one of the artists and seems to fit perfectly with mechscape (maybe some hidden concept art or something) and it shows a city with a dude flying around in a jet pack and states the year to be around late 21st century.
So if we have jet packs (would be cool) that would also work with a mouse for pitch.

The improvements were the graphics, runescape hd came from developing mechscape.
If there are multiple worlds a charter service is the most likely to take you from one place to another.

I doubt there will be space combat in itself, but maybe you can control the ship you wish to use to get from one planet to another than just wait a couple of seconds for the computer to take you there. That will be more exciting and create interest for the game.

Yes, however if you could control the ship with out space combat PVP players would be massively unhappy.
But yes i see what you mean, if it is a multi plant game i would want to be able to fly around to where i want to go and make my ship look different from ever one easel ( even if it did very little to game play).
but not being Jagex i will just have to wait for the Beta to come out to find out.....

In the Space stage in Spore, you use the arrow keys to steer around, the left-mouse click to shoot and the scrolling wheel to go up or down. Its quite confusing to use the scrolling wheel though. I think we will use the left-click to shoot things, the right-click to go faster, the arrow keys to steer and two keys next to each other, for example Q and W (easy to find and feels good on your fingers), to go up or down.

jagex will someday find a code that they used for aion so it can be made possible for flying in mechscape, or they might just code it them selves.

I love you. Did you know that it actually made it into Python 3.0? Last time I checked the site was down for it, but the URL existed.
