Full Version: 4 races, 1 account, limited character names...
MechScape World > MechScape / Stellar Dawn > MechScape / Stellar Dawn Ideas & Rumours

Well as most of you would know, when MechScape is released we're going to have four playable races to choose from. With only one account, people would say you can create multiple characters per account. But then there's the problem of character names. Well, I think that perhaps each character on an account will use the same character name, so your friends will always know it's you, and for all your characters, your single (and most likely favourite) character name is reserved. There is a similar sort of system of Guild Wars, where each character is linked, all automatically in the same guild that you join, except each character name is different. People have no way of knowing it's you, but each character will turn up on their friends list. Of course that's just an example.
This would also help in cross-game clan chat, talking to friend's you haven't actually added. People would always know who you are, no matter what character you were on.
I can't see anything wrong with this idea, and I don't see where things could go wrong so... What do you think?

I wouldn't have a problem with this system, but maybe people like changing the names of their avatar when they change race. So I can understand if some people would be upset if this is how it is going to be.
EchoNova
I made a topic about this somewhere and I agree that it makes more sense for 1 name per account so that you can be recognized by friends. I understand why people would want different names for different species, but it would make things more confusing and be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Yeah, I explained this idea on another topic, including adding Guild Wars as an example. I think the Display Names will not be limited... so we might have a couple of people running around with the same name... however, the Account Names will be revealed by the Display Names.

So for me, it will show-
Human
December (EliteZeon)
Kyo (EliteZeon)
Pliigi
Ugemek (EliteZeon)
Mortiga
Henki Zanu (EliteZeon)
Cybernetic
MS-18 Kampfer (EliteZeon)

And so on... I support the idea.

That sounds like a good way to solve it. I hate it when you have to add each alternative character that a friend have in a MMO.

Although when i think about it, when being a friend with someone in a MMO, you may want to limit it to a single character, not being friend with the whole account if you know what I mean.

Why would it be a problem being friends with the entire account? Its not as if they are an amazing Mortiga but once they become Pliigi they just aint that cool.

Its the same person.

The way I see it is like this:

Your login account name shows up first in order, and the accounts with diff usernames show up indented after it. EX:

Lizarr
--Anima
--Ratchet
--Afro Samurai
--Jack Carter

The names after my account name are names I would like to get reserved when MS starts*

There was actually a screenshot of the forums where the username appeared in this format:

Username (Username)

I therefore think, for example, my username is Saradane, it would appear like this:

Saradane (Saradane)

And if I was to change my dispay name to 'Super Leet Haxor':

Super Leet Haxor (Saradane)

This seems the most probable format due to the forum screenshot.

That sounds like a good system, but in anticipation of RPing, I already have the account "Nikolas Galt". That will come in handy. Hopefully MS's RP isn't as sad as RS's.

Perhaps a good system would to have the following account name, but have it toggleable? If I was RPing I wouldn't want to be "John Smith (Murderfreak0)". (Murderfreak0 is my horrifyingly old original RuneScape account.)
Aslancsc
sounds good, it actually could be the new name change system they have been cooking up. This would also prevent multiple account logging in. (would be cool if it worked for RS)
Ritter
Guild Wars account system is win

Thats gonna be awsome, My username will be nebular pie.
and Ill have nebular pie (as a main)
and another character for pliigi.

Oh, and on a side note, here's hoping everyone's going to get a big boost to our friends list. Jagex surely won't allow us to play through a whole new game without new friends room, and also with their technology getting better and better...

For example as someone else wrote in this thread. You have a PK account where you are a badass and kill anyone you see, no matter if it is a friend or not. You don't want that reputation for your whole account. Maybe you have a special RP character where you just chill around.

What i mean is that you may play different characters with different purposes, and don't want them associated with each other.

Use a different account altogether. People do that for alts in RuneScape anyway, so I don't see how it would be a burden to have it in MechScape, too.
