Full Version: Has anybody seen Runescape posters/Adverts?
MechScape World > Jagex > RuneScape Media
Tom
I`m sure most of you have seen the World of Warcraft ads.
But how are Runescape doing advertising wise? I haven`t seen anything around, But then again, They do have plenty of players!!

Perhaps Runescape needs a new image to attract a wider audience. It seems Warcrafts ads may have helped him do that.

Well It seems Jagex are staying well under the radar. For now anyways!!

Meh look at it this way. Put membership to one side for a minute.

WoW has 9million players. Now seeing as RuneScape has 110million the last thing they need to do is advertise. Granted not all those accounts will be active but im sure over 9million will. Put it this way.

I play RuneScape. If I want to tell a friend about RuneScape I will say:

'It's so awesome! It has all these skills like Fishing, Mining and Hunter. Tons of minigames. Combat, PvP. It's the largest F2P MMORPG out there. It recieves constant updates. And if you want even more all you have to do is pay £3.50 membership per month!'

If people see a trailer they will probably think:

'Lame graphics, lame user interface. Lame skills. It's a grindfest.'

Meh. Word of mouth is the best way to advertise. Simply because its human nature to exagerate.

Anyway I played WoW. THE worst game I have ever played. They would have to pay me over the hefty £8.99 a month to play.

So as you can see they are doing quite well on money happy.gif

I agree that the ads and trailers just make the game look crap in comparison to the amazing graphics of the WoW ads.

Well that gonna help generate like 3new players!! XD

Thanks for pointing that out, It would be hard to make Runescape look good!
I suppose your best advertising tool is the customer!
Wow, I knew they had loads of players, but not 110million accounts!

Thanks for the Graph, Looks intresting.
Haha, £146k from donations.

Jagex had a full page advert for Runescape in this month's PC Gamer (UK) Magazine, which is one of the leading games magazines here. It's the first time I've seen them advertise anywhere other than on Miniclip.
Aslancsc
yeah, they just hired some PR dude, and hes about to go on a advertising rampage. I can guarantee that they hired him as a direct result of the need for instant world-wide knowledge of the newly released mechscape game. :D (aka hes here to advertise mechscape to the world)
Darth Irule
Honestly Ive never seen a runescape advert. The only other site I saw runescape on was miniclip.
Tom
Darth, Ive not seen one either. Apart from Miniclip as you mentioned, Thats how I started it!! No, I don`t play free online games all the time!!

Advertising rampage, This will be intresting!! Youll probably find he was cherry picked from some big company! hehe :D

RuneScape's just not a game that lends itself to advertising (lol at the Dutch kid's commercial)...you really have to play before you realize how cool and addicting it is. MS might be totally different though, I'm interested to see what happens.

I'm sure they will start advertising ms just to get it off the ground.
Perhaps even just some ads.
After that I'm not sure....

If the game can make for a good commercial or poster, I can see them advertising it...but unless the graphics are fucking insane for a browser-based game, I don't see the ads being very appealing. As someone already mentioned, unless someone actually tried RuneScape for more than a small period, they would not be able to appreciate it for the great game that it is. At first glance, you notice the sub par graphics, "dull" point-and-click gameplay, and not to mention the dreaded tutorial island that most people I introduce to the game stop on...

Seeing as Jagex knows word of mouth works well for them (they even flat out say that), I see no reason for them to advertise unless they are trying to capture more players from a specific demographic (like seeing the Dutch commercial someone posted for us)
Aslancsc
Maybe that "small amount of time playing it to get hooked" is why jagex has been soooo successful with their 100% f2p aspect of RS

Thats when I first played runescape, I played miniclip a lot and runescape popped up :)
Explosion
nice found Rick Astley. they got alot of Advertising for other games.
Arain321
They certainly don't have 110million players
Also that ad would explain why they have loads of Dutch players.
