ArmCannon's 99 Mining Log

Party Info:
When: 10PM (UTC - 6) Thursday, November 12th
Where: Falador Mining Guild Entrance, World 103
My In-Game name is Rue Night, and we will use my CC to get organized. Please feel free to bring any friends, pickaxes, or rings of stone you might have.
We will assemble at the mining guild entrance, when everyone is there, we'll go into the guild, I'll get 99 Mining, we'll go back up, I'll get my cape, I'll emote a few times, and then we'll make our way to the party room. I've planned a mining themed drop party of roughly 3.5M. After that, we can head down to my house in Rimmington for Combat and Fun!
A Note: I have a very hectic work schedule, so even though this weekend would be best for everyone, I have work then. I have all of Thursday off, so I think it will work out nicely. I'm sorry to anyone in Europe, this party will be hard for you to make, unless you stay up until 4am often.
Thank you all, and I hope to see as many of you as possible there!!
The Background:
Ever since the summer of 2006, even before skill capes existed, I've been striving for 99 mining. That summer I put some serious effort into it, but never followed through. I mined coal in the mining guild that summer, then got sucked up into Pest Control (Old PC) and became a combat fanatic. My goal had fallen to the wayside. However, Mining had become my first 70+ skill. The following summer I took up runecrafting, and mining still lingered in the back of my mind. Then the summer after that, I mined pure essence from 75 to most of 82 mining. It made me enough money for a Bandos Godsword back when they were 32M. After getting 99 Strength in January, I thought hard about what my second 99 would be. I had remembered my goal of 99 Mining, and I took to it. At the time of writing this, I am 86 Mining, with a plan for 99.
The Method:
At first, I wanted 99 Mining to be a money making endeavor. After looking at it, my initial plan set in January was to mining p ess 82 to 85, then granite to 92, then gold 92 to 99. Looking at it, this would take absolutely forever. So after a few months of skilling other skills, I stepped back and re-evaluated it. So now my method is to get all the sc picks I need for 99, and mine granite and stars. This should take way less time actually mining, and I really enjoy SC.
Update: Since the release of the Living Rock Caverns, I've decided to use them for 99 instead. With any luck, 99 mining should make me 55M, and I might be able to get 99 smithing with the money.
Mining Skillweek at Even2all:
An event community I am part of is having a mining competition the week after this week, where I plan to go from 86 to 90 mining. I have about 1/3rd the SC picks I need, so the rest of this week after 94 magic will be getting sc picks. Then I should be able to follow through with my goal.
My Testing with the Dragon Pickaxe:
I just finished a test with a dragon pick I borrowed at granite. It was the 2 granite/ 2 sandstone spot featured in Zarfot's method.
<+[TW]RuneScript> *** [ TRACKER ]: [mining] exp gains for Metroidfan10 in last 1hr: 43,505 | 1day: 43,505 | 1wk: 49,350 | 4wks: 809,830
I was getting the pieces instantly half the time. I also was distracted a bit with an idiot who didn't believe the dragon pick existed...
Also, I don't think anyone has posted the stats yet:

Anyway, this is with 90 mining.
I've tested the pick at the new mine in Keldagrim. From what I find, it's pretty good on gold, and mediocre on addy and rune. I got a few of the rune rocks within one animation set (if you know what I mean) but for the most part I didn't notice a big difference.
Coal and Mith: I got the ore within one or two swings most of the time, and the rest of the time, it was within one animation set.
Pure Essence: It took a consistent 43 seconds a load. When I tried with a rune pick, it took a consistent 49 seconds a load. So that extra six seconds translates to about 5 inventories or essence over 1k essence mined (not including banking). I'm sure the time saved would be amplified when used in conjunction with an Abyssial Titan.
I didn't bother testing iron, as it is one-hit most of the time with a rune pickaxe.

I started taking Runescape Screenshots only after I had started contributing to the Runescape Community, Truthscape, in May 2008. Before then I never thought to take screenshots.
