Jagex have now produced a list of recognised fansites which people are allowed to discuss on the RuneScape and FunOrb forums. The first MechScape site listed is our very own MechScape World.

They said the recognised sites could be discussed on the forums, not in game. However in a separate post one of the mods said that while they don't encourage people advertising sites in the game they won't bring action against people discussing safe fan sites.

Actually, on the post you linked, it says this:
"Will I get into trouble for discussing a recognised fansite in-game?
No. "

The list is a bit longer than I thought it would be, but it's still cool that we get free advertising and discussion rights on the official forums.

I would say that being mentioned in twitter was the biggest hacker/abuse magnet. I could see several websites get very jealous from this but I no doubt welcome this regardless.
Cheers Jagex! ^_^

It's probably worth bearing in mind that this is a dynamic list. Just because a site isn't on there now doesn't mean it can't be added later (same goes for a site on there now being removed later).
Anywho, yay for MSW being the first and (currently) only recognised MechScape fansite.

Before I got adblock plus, Zybez used to always have RS Gold/Account ads every time I went there. So Jagex not recognizing them is understandable. Checked while writing this post with adblock off, it seems they have no adverts anymore... I wonder why.

I believe that RuneHead has been hacked before as well. I feel that if RuneHead was hacked, it's more likely due to poor security than as a direct result of being listed as an approved site.

Aww. Well is was fun while it lasted.
And as for the adverts go,
if they were adds by google, they cant control which adds come up. I know runecrypt has some adds by google and they are usually about gold selling.

I did ask Stevew to explain what the difference was between a "recognised" and a "supported" fan site when he said that but didn't get an answer. I'd call getting concept art and interviews support, but maybe he was talking about direct financial support (which as far as I am aware no fan site receives).

One they've given MSW far more MechScape related content and two, the MechScape section of their website is tiny.
So no.

When MSW got the MechScape related content Zybez wasn't a recognized fansite. But it's now so they're able to support Zybez too. And I'm not talking of the Zybez MechScape section (but it is quite big and growing too), but their whole community which is A LOT bigger than MSW.

I think this site had 2 interviews with jagex so far? One was on the phone the other was in person. And plus they given us concept art for mechscape. So they shouldn't be a supporting site. Just read Rens posts above.

Jagex will do best to stay away from officially "supporting" ANY site that is not under their DIRECT management. For example, let's say Jagex decides to support fansites financially for whatever reason - via donation, via venture capital, etc. Thus Jagex is taking a stake in that fansite. If that fansite is hacked and thousands of members are compromised,
who are they going to run to demanding compensation for lost accounts? Not the kid who lives with his parents and makes $20 cleaning rooms.
