It appears that this tweet has now been removed, which leads me to believe that Mod AJD was a little over-optimistic, although feel free to speculate otherwise.

Maybe the project they were working on is MechScape and they posted this on twitter to make the surpirse of the release bigger.
But on the other hand: What has the RuneScape team to do with the MechScape team anyway? A project of one team shouldn't affect the other team.

As soon as the next update came they just took off the mechscape related one and posted the new update, since the mechscape one was technically not an update. It was more of them making things a little bit more clear.

It's not wise to release as a "surprise". Get people following your game and build on that. Nobody except RuneScape players would sit and wait for a surprise... when you should be given information. There is almost nothing from Jagex about the actual details of the game, and I was following another game a while ago and at least they gave screenshots and other things to discuss. Right now the whole forum is just pulling stuff out of their ___ about the game.

No, there's a London office and a Cambridge office

I don't think so. When MechScape comes out, I'm sure Jagex will do everything they can to make people find out. That means advertisement.

It could either mean two things this removal -
1) They don't want everyone to think it is coming out soon because it isn't, or
2) It is coming out soon, they just want to play down the hype.
I hope it's the latter :P

I'm sure if the release date was imminent Jagex would be hyping it at least a little.
For example I can almost guarantee that they will make a splash page for mechscape.com a week before the site is launched, like they did for FunOrb.
Just another puzzle piece to Jagex's already humongous puzzle.

They probably have at least a million or more wrapped up into this project so I don't see them canceling it at the last stages of development just for that. They said that they will have around a years worth up updates really already for the initial launch so I don't see it happening like that. Maybe a delay longer then expected at most. I don't really mind the wait though. I have exams coming up and I would hate to have exams and MechScape come up at the same time. I expect it to be out around summer as that would be the best time for US and UK members which hold the majority of players or expected players.
I think the reason for why they have given out concept art and such to the community is to show that this isn't just vaporware as it appears to be and that they are really serious about the development in MechScape.

Lol, you guys are automatically taking it as if JAGEX removed it.
I'm involved in a ARG related to another game, (The Secret world, too complicated, don't ask.) And the writer of the game has had many of his tweets disappear randomly, without him deleting them. So Just because it's gone, doesn't mean that it was removed BY Jagex. It could have been just a bug in the twitter system, it's happened to me, and lots of my friends before. It's not fun.
That being said, it still wouldn't surprise me if it was Jagex that removed it, and not a bug. Because just look at all the hype that's been caused because of that tweet!

I agree. I think it means that their definition of soon was slightly different to ours. For them several months before the release of a long-term project is soon, but some think soon means imminent. I think they realised this and removed the tweet so as not to be giving out the wrong signal.

They throw the words soon, promise, close release, etc. around a lot, getting too many peoples hopes up. Getting rid of that post was for the best, they've already crushed my hopes of release anytime soon so not even a post like "its coming out within the month" won't spark excitement for me.

For all PlayStation3 users out there this reminds me of something. Hmmmm....
Oh yes! PlayStation HOME.
Now that kept getting delayed after empty promises and excesive hype. This meant that when it was released almost everyone had lost interest or was majourly dissapointed.
The last thing we want is a repeat performance.
I am positive Jagex reads these posts so lets leave a little message.
@Jagex
The post you left on Twitter was removed for some reason or other. It got many peoples hopes up with an expected release. Unfortunately this now appears to not be the case. At least inform readers on twitter as to why this has been done. Even if it is a few words. Eg. 'The Information Was False.' or 'It was removed for another Headline.'
Thanks.
