One of the many Darren B images I found was for the Mortiga.
As some of you may know the word Pliigi means various things in Esperanto, such as "to increase".
Well, I decided to look up Mortiga, and it apparently means "deadly", with mortigi meaning "to kill". If someone else noticed this before and I didn't see their post then let me know.
Also there is Malju'nik (or something like that) mentioned in some of the images. This could be related to the Esperanto word maljuna which means old.
Note: There is no guarantee the Mortiga are in MechScape, and even if they are they might look quite different by now.

Hey Ren, would you think the Core / Orb in the center of this "Mortiga" character is the same as the orb-like crystal from the poster Jagex gave us?
Edit:
If you are not sure what I am talking about, I'll post an image of it.

Good spotting Dizzy, it kinda looks like it...
does this mean the picture on the poster is of a Moriga city or a human city?
just speculation.

Is it some kind of robotic-rock living organism?

I would think it's a human city. However, the Mortiga could be a creation of another race (if it's not a race similar to the Tz-Haar in RuneScape). The red crystal found in the cliff (or alien structure) in the poster could be an essential power source in MechScape.
There's even the possibility of the Mortiga being a human creation or even a shared technology between races.

I rather hope they're a monster in mechscape, not a playable character. (They're too ugly!! i just wanna bash their "not a head" in!)
I would probably play the Pliigi over them. I like how they look though.

Hmm, interesting, I wonder if these will be something we train on or a race we can play?
If Mortiga and Pliigi are both Esperanto words, that means that the humans could potentially be called the homaro (esperanto for "mankind").

True, just because they are a species does not mean they will be a playable species.

I really think that MechScape will be more worth while if there were multiple playable species. I mean honestly, that sounds a bit like f2p/p2p material there. Like humans are the only f2p species, but Pliigi and Mortiga are members only.
But I'd play Pliigi most likely...

I never heard of the language Esperanto until a few days ago. It seems there's only 10 million speakers of it. It's a mixture of languages.
Good find, Ren. "Deadly" seems fitting.

Maybe races have attributes, and this one is more of aggressive one?
Making it perhaps more dominant in pvp, but weaker in say construction or some other form of non combat.

That's a nice find. It looks like some sort of rock-robot.
If the mortiga are a playable race then I would definitely choose them.

I would love if there was more than one playable race, it would add a bit diversity to the game. (Not seeing humans everywhere)
On a totally unrelated note, I registered "Mortiga One" which is supposed to mean Deadly one :p Since some people already took "Mortiga" Mortigii etc...

It has been confirmed by Mod MMG that there will be multiple playable races. There will also be a choice of alliances.

It basically means that a man created a language using the roots of european languages and his imagination and now Jagex is using some of the words from the language for the MechScape words.

True, just because they are a species does not mean they will be a playable species.
Judging from the Pliigi building and vehicle concept art. They look swamplike and plant based. I'd take a dangerous Mortiga rock monster over them I think.
As for the use of Esperanto... this is very interesting... Maybe the first video game fully translated in Esperanto? Have there been any Esperanto words in other Jagex games I missed? Plus the range of which the language spreads and its easy to understand build. VERY INTERESTING!
For those who don't know what Esperanto is you should wikipedia it. It is very interesting. I just looked it up after it was mentioned.

I don't think the game will be fully translated into Esperanto - they haven't mentioned knowing the language in any job vacancy and it'd be a waste of money. Adam Tuckwell said that the game draws upon many sources of inspiration which are "all compiled together to get a truly unique gaming experience", and one can assume that the use of Esperanto to give the names of races a deeper meaning is just one of the many things thrown into the mix.

This esperanto stuff definitely raises some interesting ideas. Did you know they speak Esperanto in a couple of the early episodes for Red Dwarf?
"Please send up the hall porter, there appears to be a frog in my bidet..." :D
Esperanto's been around for a couple of decades now. It was originally intended as a unifying language for Europe in an attempt to bring the various countries together with a language that all would speak - (a la) the Tower of Babel, from the early parts of the Old Testament (In the Bible for those who don't know :P ).
In any case, the idea was eventually thrown out due to some severe opposition and unrealistic implementation for such a thing.

i will look up Esperanto later but, for the most part, there is a unifying language across the world, and that is English thanks to first the conquering British, and now the unequaled virtual dominance of American culture throughout the world. I don't think there's a need to create another language. I play other online games and most of the europeans, from Portugal to russia, scandinavia, italy, all speak english, cause they generally dont understand eachother's tongue's, but they understand english quite well. Heck, even Indians from India and some Arabs and Africans and chinese speak english on online games, English is both the language used in International business, and also a common tongue.

I like the rock look but not the humanoid structure. I can't imagine that advanced species all evolved with a head upon two arms upon two legs. So far, I'm gonna stick with the humans. Let's start gathering paper to take these amasoj da rubo* (piles of rubble) down!!
*Trying to figure out made-up swears to make the game more lively and intense. I doubt anyone will take it seriously.
Sort of like "split-lip" for the elites in Halo.
So pile of rubble, ivory pebbles (ivory is VERY long in esperato), etc...

The Pliigi are a playable race. There are 4 in which we can pick from. Humans and Pliigi are the only races that we know as of now.
