While researching MechScape I found some cool videos featuring Jagex employees talking about their careers. The most interesting is the one by Head of MechScape Henrique Olifiers in which he says:
QUOTE
I think my proudest moment is still to come, is where I've released my first big game here in Europe, and there's so much momentum being built around this project I've been working the past two and a half years, I think seeing that game coming together, and the stage it is right now, being playable and people enjoying it, but it's about to be released and open to the world. I'm starting to feel that this is my proudest moment. I am almost in the clouds, walking in the sky,

Henrique Olifiers (Head of MechScape)
Mark Brassington (Senior Graphics Modeller)
David Coleman (Bug Abuse Lead Curator)
Will Knox-Walker (RuneScape Release Co-ordinator)
Laura Watton (2D FunOrb Artist)
Alex Janaway (MechScape Associate Producer)
Dean Ollive (RuneScape QA Unit Lead)

Some artwork, possibly MechScape, also features in the videos:

[There is some other art around and about in those videos too - if Jagex want me to take down this thread I will]
Saraliman
Interesting.
ZehFleming
Middle pic, left screen... Nice concept art :)

I'm now streaming the henrique olifiers movie!
Darkness
Interesting! Looks to me like some sort of hover car type of thing :O
Garanaw
Woah ... Good job Ren!!

Does the camra man have ADD or something?
Cyph3r
Interesting, and nice pictures :) (I've only watched the henrique molifiers one)

Lol, seriously.. *still looking at videos*

The master of finding everything finds even more. Awesome find, Ren; I'm most of the way through Henrique's, and have one major complaint about the videos, though: The camera work is terrible; they went for some sort of edgy, creative, wild camera with it constantly moving around, but instead all I got out of it was "Our cameraman was drunk and can't sit still." I mean, I just came back from my Filmmaking I class an hour ago... Our high school kids do better camera work than whoever shot this!

But the content itself is very informative.

Lol, I know, the random "transitions" were messed up.
That video was posted on Feb. 10. Mr. Olifiers said that it was "playable." So I guess their just ironing out bugs and we can expect a release soon :D

Garanaw
Could that be the MechScape site that you can see in some of the vids? blink.gif

Edit: Nevermind, probably not

Second edit: Duh, of course it isn't.
Stellar
The one on his desktop, is in fact his desktop background.
With that said, it does look like concept art.
Ren
I think Alex Janaway is working on MechScape. Did you hear his mention of sci-fi?
nich
when was this video released, because henrique says "its about to be released"
is mechscape going to just release it out of the blue really soon? or is that the "exciting news" ren mentioned on the 24th? (my bday biggrin.gif)

10 February 2008 is when it was released. MSW does not know the MechScape release date (it might not even have one if they want it to go through lots of quality control which is hard to estimate time-wise).
nich
o lol. then henrique could have been talkin bout something totally different :p
sorry for jumpin the gun a bit
Darth Irule
Second one looks like a claw or something.
nich
hm, in my opinion the coolest design on the wall is that spider looking thing. whether that is a creature, machine, or vehicle.
maddog1000
It kinda looks like a spider in the tird pic in the back.
Good eyes though banana.gif
Ren
Just spoke to some people and it seems like many missed the video I posted last year about working at Jagex:
http://www.herecomestheboss.com/userprofile/479/Jagex

It does seem like Jagex is a very good company to work for smile.gif
Human NPC
Many thanks Ren! You're always working hard to find new things for the MSW community to feast their eyes upon.
Daniel
Awesome work finding these videos, Ren!

It's great seeing Jagex behind the scenes. It goes nicely with the development of their new 'open' corporate image.

Edit: Given the main focus of these videos, it gives the younger generation an insight into what the employees did with their lives to get into the job they enjoy. That was something I could relate to, and I'm sure many of us here can as well. It is certainly a priority for Jagex to encourage their future generation of employees, given the shortage of skill in relevant fields. Just thought I'd reinforce that.
Pliigi
Very interesting.

They seem to have gone a little overboard on effects ermm.gif But informative just the same.
nicatronTg
Hmm they're interesting. The unneeded camera angles got in some stuff that we didn't *need* but look nice, like his desktop backround. :)
Max
The videos are pretty nice. I like that fact that you can now see the human being behind Jagex and not that this is some evil company at work.

Some of the artwork is MechScape related. If it is in the game or not, it's not definite.

Ima liking this statement:

"seeing that game coming together, being playable and people enjoying it, about to be released, and open to the world"

can i get a woot?

(knowing me this wont be about mechscape at all)

YEs probably about runescape 3. Just think.
Dizzy
This videos are really cool Ren. smile.gif
It is about time we see the people behind our favorite games.
Regor
That certainly is MechScape art :p looks pretty cool.
SuperStevee
Thats an awesome find but the camera shots and editing bugs the hell out of me lol.

EDIT: I think the six picture is the yeti from the christmas event.
Dirk
Neat find. The videos don't really reveal anything new besides the possible concept art, but it's all interesting none the less. smile.gif
Crash Jordan
Very interesting.

Thanks Ren. :)

awesome

Nice find :D

Umm on Mark Brassington there is a spot where it shows a website in the background, and the FunOrb website:

I've circled what I'm thinking of in Red, that definitely doesn't remind me of the old RuneScape website (anyone have a pic to compare it to?). And I'm thinking it was either a early prototype of our new RuneScape website we see now, or a version of mechscape lol.

Also, I'm not to sure how much these dates they gave match up. On his screen he has RuneScape HD in the RESIZABLE window, if my memory is correct didn't they say they developed the resizable window after the release of HD?
Ren
Yeah, seems like they got the date wrong.
Gambit
Very nice find Ren.

:)

The supervisor guy scares me though.

Yeah, seems like they got the date wrong.

My guess is that they meant 2009, that would match up best with the graphics they show, and with Henrique's statement. I would also think then that the background computer in my last post is either the phoenix background (but was the rest of the site that dark), or again, mechscape lol.

Maybe Jagex would be able to clarify the dates' of these videos?

Btw, Will Knox-Walker, I'm thinking he is Mod Ash on the RuneScape forums :p

Edit: Based on Alex Janaway's video, I'd estimate that video was made around September or October 2008. This is because he says he had his first book being published in about a month, and looking him up online I found this: http://wonderlands.ning.com/profile/AlexJanaway which says first book published in November 2008.

So September or October would both be pretty good guess I think as it matches up with RuneScape HD seen in background, and Henrique's statement is relatively good because in comparison to 2.5 years a few more months is like nothing :p

What's that thing in the bottom right?

What's that thing in the bottom left?

Top right: A character riding a motorbike of some sort. Interesting...

Looks like Jagex enjoy a good game of Fifa, hehe.
Edit: Nope! Not Fifa! Pro evolution soccer!

Center: It looks like they have a model of some sort sitting above the fan.
Middle screen on the left: The model of a robot (if that thing on its right is a leg) or a hovercraft sort of thing like off starwars?
Back row on the left facing the screen: It's Adam Goodes!

I wonder how much that sign would be worth?

How long have they been playing that game of Pro Evo Soccer for? Shouldn't they be working?

Bottom left: There's that thing again mentioned below the first picture!
Middle top: That model looks like something I think I may have seen in the concept art. I'll look through there soon.

Edit: Nope. Didn't find anything. Perhaps it's just a face hugger?"

[There is some other art around and about in those videos too - if Jagex want me to take down this thread I will]

I've left all my comments in red inside the quote.

Looks like the new RuneScape website in the background. Same colours, and I'm sure the MechScape one will have different colours too.
Why does he have a PS2 game on his desk?

What are these?

I am pretty sure its the new one, I guess it was under development in that picture.

The image which the speech bubble of Icould is originating from looks like it is Darren B's concept art:

I think those are the paintball helms. If you haven't it seen it, one of the old picture of the Jagex's team is where they are playing paintball. (but this was a long time ago)

Or that all Jagex employees waste company time by doodling random sc-fi artwork. :p

At first glance the white thing in that pic looks like a helmet from a space suit.
Robinhoodrs
Very cool watch on all of them.

"Mechscape coming out very soon" and that was said back in 2008?

Hmm... confused.gif

Edit: Did i see a Space Helm with the Head of MechScape as he left?! huh.gif

Ah, Ren. Good that you noticed that, but that's not what I was pointing out. I meant the box(?) sitting on the ground below that. :)

The helmet closest to us is a Soviet Russian MiG stratosphere pressure helmet. Very expensive piece of collectors militaria - they usually go for several hundreds of pounds on ebay. Nice!
The other one looks like an old Virtual Reality helmet?

Are you being serious? O.o

That's a nice call if it is serious.

You can find more information on the second helmet here:
