If it is true that "Mod MMG has confirmed they are working on a new system which allows Name Changing! We will be able to have our own display names. They are also allowing longer names with special characters. It will benefit us from hijackers, and will offer us a cool new name" as is stated by Death 4210 on RSOF and discussed by Dizzy on MSW in relation to RuneScape this could be very important for MechScape.

That would be very cool. I would like be called Cyph3r And Because I have like more posts on the best MS fansite ever than the average ms player, so Everyone would be like "Cyph3r do u hav life / Cyph3r ken I b ur gf???? / Cyph3r Do U Haz Pankakez??"lulz.

That's cool and all, but I've already given up on the prospect of looking for new names again. Once I was able to register Xelb, I was happy with having a cool, short name with zero numbers on it. And so, I look forward to being able to keep this name for use on MechScape. That's my opinion. Of course, it's only a display name, so would that also mean we could (possibly) have our login names changed as well?

This in-game BTS was in Mod MMG's clan chat, no? I would very well think it is accurate :). This opens up a whole new door, I'll grab the name 'Sam' :).

What Mod MMG says can be considered as accurate, but not necessarily how others report it.

So do you have to have a registered RuneScape account to play MechScape? And is that a name change from RS to MS? Or will you be able to change your name whenever...

We'll have to wait and see. It is already the case that instead of having "RuneScape" accounts you have "Jagex" accounts which are shared between Runescape and FunOrb, so I personally expect for MechScpape to continue this trend and also use the shared "Jagex" account.

Definitely seems intresting. If nothing else it will help cut down on hacking since nobody would know your real login name, unless you get key logged.

Anything to make it harder for hackers is awesome. I'm wondering how they will approach existing accounts though. Will they have the same display name as login or what?

Now this means all the popular user names will be taken. Like someone is going to get zezima. Others are going to get the popular names of other famous runescape players. I just hope I get Sean.

I think for those things (hiscores/friend lists) they'll just use the login-username. But for ingame chat etc.. Lol I hope there's not gonna be 11343413445 zezima's :|

The whole 'name changing' thing has been floating around for years and I guess now that we're in the era of Mod MMG it seems all the more plausible.
It would certainly be a pleasant surprise if they managed to coincide the release of MechScape with display names/name changing.

They will probably have it where it must be a unique display name and a unique login name. The hiscores will go off of the display name.

Imagine-Ive got acc with 99 wc and another with flat....I could move wc to that acc.

The only thing that may be annoying is setting up the highscores. If someone wanted to look me up on the Hiscores, they would have to know my login name. I guess you could have an option (display login name ON, FRIENDS, OFF) or you could have a QuickChat option, who knows.
As for the whole "stealing of names" I think people will view others that have common names (Zezima, Gertjaars, etc) as noobs or at least unoriginal little 11 year olds. But nevertheless, it'd be kinda weird seeing like 20 "Zezima's" in a row. Especially if they were all level 138 and claimed to be Zezima.

This will make everything so much easier. Now instead of hackers having to try the scam "Jagex doesn't block your password backwards, look: ***********" And people replying "96emosewaosmi," they would have to actually create some scam where they get both your username and password, which is virtually impossible without making your sentence seem awkward. This might prove to be the biggest step in account security Jagex has ever taken. The only thing I wouldn't like is that the real original names such as (courtesy of Ren ) "Me," for example... that will really suck. Good thing I don't have a particularly original username. By the way, I've been out for a week or so now... Feels good to be back.

Ren will still have this account as "me". Jagex wouldn't take away me as a display name for Ren simply because it's too short or that you have to 'reclaim' your name as a display name.

I think it will be possible for two or more people to have the same nicknames. Otherwise it would be impossible to get a good name out of the data base without adding 5 diffrent numbers at the end. All the names will possibly be taken up.

Hey, by not displaying your account name, theres basically no risk of getting hacked :D

If you type in your account name into a phishing site or use it while you have a keylogger it makes little difference.

Well, if you're dumb enough to fall for a phishing site, or don't do regular malware scans, you get what you get.
