Good Afternoon, MechScape World. The past week has been very hectic for myself and staff of the site; and I'm sure some members are wondering what's up. This post will hopefully clear the air on some tough, hard-to-explain issues.

"What happened!?!"
Last Monday, the 9th, our server was taken down due to complaints regarding an earlier downtime. We are still in the process of moving to a new server and a new IP address. This has been very stressful on Ren, myself and older members of the site as we try to decide what is the best - and most cost-effective - course of action. We've been getting free hosting offers from members just like you, and whilst we appreciate it, no amount of shared hosting can hold a website like this. So please, hold off on all the offers. =)
It'll be another 72 hours before the site is switched over for everyone. Patience will be key.

All members have been experiencing trouble uploading images to the server. This is due to bad server configuration or perhaps lack of writable permission. We will be looking at this shortly to see the issue, and hopefully fix it.

Ads!
Dismal - very dismal - payouts from Google have prompted us to switch to a different tactic in advertising - pay per sale ads. Our decision is quite easy to understand. Google has absolutely no control over the ads they stick onto our site, and if we wanted to control the ads, it would easily take an hour or two of our day just to approve the ads we'd like our members to see. The result is illegal gold-selling and scam sites being advertised on our own, our precious MechScape World. I don't want that! Nobody does! So I prompted to take a look at an experimental PPS model.

The interesting thing about the PPS model is that instead of practically discouraging users to click ads, you may click all you want. We are only paid if somebody buys something after clicking through, not the actual click. We have full control over the ads you see and I've tried to pick the best landing pages as possible.

The PPS model may or may not offer better payouts*, but to be honest, I'd rather lose money giving you safer and more relevant advertisers, than to make just a little bit more by peddlin' crap.
* We are not at liberty to discuss what we earn. That would be against the Terms of Service.

I don't mind what ads are in the site, but i may click on them more often if i know that they are safe. March 24..... isnt that the day before mod craddock said mechscape was to be realeased???

Didn't Mod C(something) say that MechScape was due to be released on the 25th of March on the RSOF (the screenshot is possibly faked). But if it wasn't faked, i'm just assuming you've possible been told already, PC.

The guy who posted the Mod Craddock pic says it was a fake. This is unrelated.

... This is my first post but i follow you guys for some time now, Ren and his partners are doing a great job and there effort was well prized with this great "ally" with Jagex which it's totally deserved!

You only get money if people buy something off an advertisement on here? That to me sounds stupid, not many people click ads, let alone buy something off ads. (Hate to be cruel but I have to be straight with you guys, doesn't sound too successful)

Maybe is it possible to give members the option to view the google ads off their own account, like an option of turning the ads on and off on people's own accounts? and it being based on view hits?

Also, only retarded people click ads of "I made 500 million on Runescape in a week, find out how and buy my e-book!"

I hate to be mean, but Receiving a share of the profits when someone buys something off an advertisement hosted on MSW seems unsucessful in my eyes.

You should also contact/research Jagex to see how they handle their advertisements. I doubt its the "buying off ad and you share profits" style, but I think they control what ads go on their site becuase you never see those stupid runescape gold selling, on ads on runescape.com

Laura already stated she rather have less money coming into the site, than having ads that are "cheating in RuneScape". Also the only way (future) that members won't see any ads, is if they donate to the site.

What's going to happen on March 24th? I can't wait!

The current forum configuration (with the IP) is intentional at the moment to avoid having people revert back to the old site's DNS. Yes, it sucks, but it will be over soon.
