I'm afraid that we can't give you a precise release date at this time. We have to make sure that everything is thoroughly tested before it's released.

It just sounds to me as though they dont want to get tied down to a specific release date so as not to disapoint all those waiting expectantly. I'm still hoping for a late March release though

Looks like they just don't wanna give out a release date so they don't mess things up with glitches etc and don't rush it.
I don't wanna play it if it isn't ready, glitch fixxing is fine for me... i can wait... i think... i'm sure i can... hmm space pie

Yeah the number one reason many of the games released in the past 5 years nosedived was due to premature release, they succumed to their fans and their promissed release date and (for lack of a better phrase) "let them have it".
I can wait, let them take their time, they have given more than enough information to keep my release anxiety at bay...for a little while.

It makes sense, they want to release it as bug-free as possible. Take your time Jagex

Ok the Mechscape release date is out of the question , but we should try to ask when the web site will be up at least if theres going to be a teaser site up
Max
Mar 13 2009, 05:32 PM
We already knew Jagex wasn't going to really tell us when they were going to release. I'm very happy that they are going to release the game when it is ready rather then release it early as a beta and have only half of it working properly. I agree with whoever said that that's what the issue is with most mmos that nosedive. I also hate those games that promise a feature and then on the release date the feature isn't there. So the company, to save its own ass, says that they will release it later on when they have finished that feature. "Hey, what the hell, the game is release? Why? You didn't finish it!" So, yea, I'm happy that Jagex is going to finish something and make it version 1.0 where as these other companies are more interested in getting the game out there even when it isn't ready so they have get some income and for a lack of a better phrase because they are running out of money. So, go Jagex! Show everyone how to fully develop something before releasing it and then improve the game from there.

I could not agree more!
Personally I am of the opinion that the game should have been teased a long time ago. Most games have a good year head start on their marketing and teaser campaign. I'll give an example that is dear to me.
Final Fantasy XIII - There has been massive amounts of images and videos released for well over 2 years now. The expected release date of this game is November 2010. There was information available about SquareEnix's intent to produce this game since before the playstation 3 was available to the public. (Developers already had the dev kits)
OK, now granted this is a well established franchise that I've been playing since the early 90's but it is a prime example of one of the more secretive game developers that is very forthcoming about their products.
I could in theory be OK with Jagex postponing thier Mechscape project IF they were more transparent and provided the eager fanbase with a flood of information, pictures, videos, et cetera.
Frankly I have no faith in their quality assurance staff. That stems from a very long list of failures and poor methods. (Will elaborate more if asked to)
The fact is, that unless there were some serious policy changes, new management (for Q/A) and triple the normal alloted time they give for debugging/testing procedures, I still would not have faith in Jagex being able to deliver a bug free Mechscape. Therefore I have no issue with them taking all the time they need to get it right. But ONLY if they release the website and a host of other info to satiate the hungry wolves.
Now I know a lot of the above had a lot to do with Iddison and hopefully under MMG things will be rectified, but he inherited some very tough problems to solve. I also know that they recently hired more quality control. That's a sure sign that MMG recognized the weakness and is attempting to restructure and resolve those issues.
Ideally if they want to take their sweet time, that's fine. They should be honest and open about that and not ostrasize them selves from the rest of the game development community by being the only rebel that refuses to tease their product. Jagex is in a unique position and already has distinguished them selves as a major player. Let's hope they do the wise thing and continue the "Era of openess" with the release of Mechscape.com and in all earnest stating: This will take longer than we expected in order to deliver a grade A product devoid of bugs.

Absolutely no new information here, but I got two snippets of Mod Stevew talking about Mechscape -

Obviously nothing new there, but it's nice to know they are being more open about it. These were taken today at a Red Nose Day Event at the party room, someone was hosting an event there on the Runescape forums and the Jagex moderators were impressed so they decided to make it a sticky. Mod Raven and Mod Stevew also turned up for the party :) (I also got a dragon battleaxe as a drop ;) )

I'm sure they do. They have an entire MMO sitting there itching to let you find it's bugs and issues. The ultimate test is when the game is released though. That's when the real hard bugs to find are rooted out and zapped good.

It's fine how they can't give us a precise release date...YET. But with EVERY single piece of evidence and information this site comes across, the more closer we are to the actual release of MechScape. No matter how small it is, at least the tidbits of information that the members of this website have the opportunity to view, we can say that we were the first to find it out before others.
Asante.

My official guess is May.

The Jagex guy on the clip said Q1 2009, meaning January February or March, but all this proves is that not even Jagex can make an accurate 3-month guess as to the release.

As much as I'd like to say that myself, I would much rather have it out and get the release over with. If there are bug abusers on the first few days, and something unfair happens to you ( such as being scammed out of money for example), there's still plenty of time to make up for it and still be on top of the high scores list in 5 years :P. Personally I wouldn't mind helping Jagex out finding bugs etc...would be sort of fun :D. Anyway, if they release it now..lots of bug reports, few system updates in first couple of months with fixes..why not.

Meh, not bothered... I've waited so much, that a few months is seriously nothing for me right now. I don't mind if it comes out in April or May, and if they have to hold it up till June, let it be. I do hope that they announce the date before they actually release it though. Otherwise, one day I'm gonna type in mechscape.com in my adress bar, click enter, try to register, and an error message pops up saying "This username is already in use".

This is the kind of reply from Jagex that i was expecting and doesn't half surprise me.
I think that the secrecy itself is generating a nice "buzz" in the RuneScape Community which in itself generates some nice word of mouth about the game. Their secrecy is their success, so i do not think that they will stop being so vague with occassions such as this.

He says they have to make sure everything is thoroughly tested before releasing. That means the game is finished, and could be released right now, but they are just ironing out the glitches/bugs, doing last minute tweaks, tests, etc.
I don't know about you all, but I think it is coming out mid-late April.

Same here, but I guess they wanted to do qa. Which would take a while because they have to find bugs, tell if the game is fun, what it needs improvement in and then kink out all the bugs and get the game running at the level they want it to be at.
