It is already out as an open beta, Daniel. I was playing this on the weekend after I spent about ten hours trying to install and update the stupid thing.

I'm not too impressed as the fullscreen is broken on my computer. (It apparently can only run it in a window.)

Sorry, by "free beta" I meant open beta. Beta != Released.

Yeah, I've been checking it out this afternoon. Looks promising. But I have already discovered a number of bugs. And yes, full-screen doesn't work.

At least they're tiny and not using real life rune stones such as the below.

As for the game, it didn't look like anything special; then again, I haven't looked into it in three months. Anything that sticks out that wouldn't make it another WoW clone (which it looks like at first glance)?

I don't see where they stole Runescape's runes? The art is awesome.

I don't know how much of a rip off it is, but it looks pretty darn good graphics wise.

It looks pretty, but I swore off of downloadable MMORPG's, except for Project Utopia of course :D

I'm sure its exactly the same as every other MMORPG, with point and click combat, special attacks, and mundane, repetitive quests.

Rune stones are not RuneScape-only. They come from Norse mythology, I believe.

It's just the principle that's identical. The fact that it's very much a WoW-clone constitutes mockery towards other game elements that are familiar.

That's the thing, you see. We've got MMORPGs coming out of our ears. There's a new one released pretty much every fortnight.

Competition is getting ridiculous.

That's why Jagex have an advantage in being 'different' (and more accessible than most).

Very true, that is one of the main reasons I enjoyed RunScape from the start. :)

I don't know why almost every new MMORPG nowadays has women dressed in skimpy outfits in their ads and front page. I am not complaining or anything, but it just strikes me as little odd. Does someone who sees a "dark mage" in a thong immediately wanna to play the game? Also, wouldn't doing battle in only a thong be a little uncomfortable, and what would your backup plan be if your string breaks? :o

I think it has something to do with Japanese influences. A lot of Japanese MMORPGs have women in skimpy outfits, and I think the idea spread. It's now commonly associated with a lot of fantasy MMORPGs. I guess you could compare it to male characters with massive muscles - not many people are like that in IRL, but it puts across a perfect world I guess.

They are clearly mmorpgs made for and by pervs.

Anyone here actually tried this beta? What's it like?

I've installed it and played it for about six or seven hours in all. There isn't anything 'new' that I haven't seen other MMOs do. Overall I'm just not impressed and I'm not going to even recommend the game to anyone.

Quests are very simple. Get X or find this person. (Some are looped where you can do them over and over again.)

Skill system is very basic and pointless. It's too limiting and at the same time not enough.

The 'tutorial' explains very little and leaves you hanging.

There is very little conversation going on in the game. Feels like a ghost town.
