If you click a link and it randomly asks you to log in to MechScapeWorld.com (especially when you are ALREADY LOGGED IN), make sure it isn't a phishing site!

I just found a site which had a domain similar to MechScapeWorld.com and copied our theme but asked for your login details but wasn't owned by us. Please make sure you are on MechScapeWorld.com and not a scam site! Remember, people can link to a fake domain and put the title of the link as a legitimate-looking URL. Anyone who's banned because they fell for the scam should contact me.

As usual we recommend that your MechScapeWorld password should be a unique one, not one you use for other sites and certainly not the one you use for your Jagex account. I have changed the passwords for some members of staff as a precaution - contact me if you can't get them through the "forgot my pass" facility.

If you see anyone try to do one of these scams then please get in touch with a mod/admin. If you fell for the scam then change you password and check your account to ensure they didn't change your registered e-mail address.

Don't use your Jagex password on any non-Jagex site.

Thanks for banning me, my account was really out of control... I actually checked if it was mechscapeworld.com, but very quickly, must have been really similar. Afterwards I changed my pass but I don't know what happened.

That PM was not very strange except for that he gave me a link to "this" site...

I changed your password for you just to be safe, so you have to use the lost password facility.

Just check your account settings to make sure they didn't change your e-mail address. If they didn't they you should be fine.

Sometimes it is to cause trouble and sometimes it is in the hope that you use your RuneScape password on other sites.

Also, trusted forum accounts can be a tool for scamming other members, if you've been around a while people are more likely to click your links.

Yea, that would be crazy. Luckily, I'm not gonna get hacked again. I checked if it was Mechscapeworld.com too quickly, was probably .tk or something. I never thought anyone would hack forum accounts but now I know and I won't get lured again.

Just make sure your password for MSW is different for all your online accounts including your Jagex/Runescape password and your email. That's all it takes to stay safe! =D

The guy who hacked me only had a few minutes, but in that time he edited quite many posts, and sent a few PMs from my account. It didn't really suck for me, but it would suck if other people got links from my pms, they got hacked too, and so on... I only think 2 other people got PMs from me and both of them are safe.

I feel so stupid now.

I logged on today and I saw a pm from you, "[This was a scam PM. If you followed the link then change your password!]" I didn't know what the hell you were talking about. Even though I didn't click any links, I'm still changing my password just to be on the safe side.

If you didn't click the link and then enter your pass you should be safe, but no harm in changing your password.

No, what we are talking about is scam sites. If you got a message with no link, you should be fine.

We changed the content of the scam messages to a message such as that to protect people from it.

I got a pm from "nokiaman" saying I got approved for staff. Since they're not an admin I didn't even open it, though. That and they were already banned before I saw that I had recieved a message.

Bottom line is don't follow links or check the links before you click. No link should log you out. This is Internet 101.
