I just had to read this for my English class. It took a while to get into but over it's a good book. I would have never just picked this up and read it but since I was forced to I'm glad I did and didn't just use sparknotes. I suggest reading this book thought it makes you think about how the media and the government affect how you think.
1984 is also where the term "Big Brother" comes from. 1984 is a pretty good book; I've read it.
One of the greatest novels ever written. Orwell was well ahead of his time, many of the things which he wrote could very well happen in our society today....if it isn't happening already. And also, I loved the 1984 motion picture.

Reading it right now in my AP English Compo class! I absolutely love the book so far.
I think I should stay away from this topic in case anyone spoils anything...

What grade are you in? I read it in 10th grade honors english, and got like a 100 on the test. I think the only time I got 100 on an english class test in high school.:(
I rather read and discuss a good book than learn about Shakespearean language in modern poems.

I read it like 7th grade because I had heard of it. Orwell is great. Animal Farm was a year or two before 1984. Ah, Big Brother.

Four of the greatest books that i read in grade school:
The Giver( even though the book is kinda written in a lower reading level that the others, it is still able to convey soo much meaning and emotion.)
1984
Lord of the Flies
Grapes of Wrath

Right now in english my class is reading "Animal Farm". Everyone hates it, but i think it's extremely well written and cleverly done. I guess i'm actually with the teachers on this one.
