So I was looking at youtube videos for MechScape and there was a video that was uploaded 6 hours ago that has a kid recording a Jmod talking about MechScape at the Grand Exchange. To me this video did not look like Mopar at all.

What I really thought was strange was that the Jmod said "You can visit the MechScape holding page, and sign up for the news". Considering that the MechScape site isn't up yet I have no idea what he meant. Please tell me your opinions on this video.

Its very hard to read the words, not good video quality. The quality is soo bad its hard to even tell if it was faked.


Holding page = forums? But how would you sign up for it?

There is no Mechscape holding page that I am aware of. Although, there could be one soon.

For better video quality, at the end of the url add: &fmt=18. It will set it to high detail (do-able with any old videos on youtube aswell)

As well as there will be PvP supposedly. Since he stated he didn't know the full details on it yet. Along with a bigger scale and scope than Runescape. (Kind of already known yes, but still)

I emailed Jagex awhile back about the fake interview, and this was the response. The moderator in the video and the one who wrote to me seem to be telling the same story, that there is a teaser page and newsletter. I don't know if the video is real, but since the e-mail was a reply it was definitely real, but as everyone who has tried to visit MechScape.com would know it just gives a 404.

Possibility:

The only answer which I can think of is that Jagex set up the teaser page and newsletter sign up, but restricted access to inside the Jagex office. So some Jagex employees think it has gone "live" while actually it isn't available outside their offices, which would explain why the moderator said what he did.

I have a feeling they will announce Mechscape on the behind the scenes for February.

They should atleast start disclosing some information on Mechscape to the public. Instead of one day just randomly throwing the game upon us.

But maybe that is what they want. :p

Not exactly, this email is from September. It gives no real indication that the site will come soon, although I wouldn't be surprised since the game is supposedly releasing in March.

Well I never was big fan of Jagex's P.R department.

I vote for "they have an internal holding page but not everyone knew it was only on Jagex's network and not public". You can never know for sure, but looking at the video I'd say its more likely real than fake.

Just spoke to dragon312 (not the person who took the vid but someone references in it) and he says it was legit. If this was a fake it was a very elaborate, well-researched and well-executed one.


RuneScape is like one continent, so to be larger in scale and scope you'd have it larger than one continent. We already know it will have space bases, so that's larger in scale scope already, and if it has vehicles that means there can be larger areas of open terrain. But could it mean it will have multiple planets?

Sounds good... But could it really be bigger and better graphics etc, if they have had so few people working with the game compared with RS? Or maybe they haven't but all facts that I've seen show that it's a small team...

My research indicated 1 head, 13+ in content development, 5+ in quality assurance ("[expected] to grow significantly in size as the product approaches and passes its launch date"), perhaps 20 in graphics, at least one web developer and a bunch of other departments which help out. Iddison described it as a "very, very big investment".

It's not open to the public though, it is only open to Jagex; Mod Nicho just wasn't aware of this and believed it was public.

If Mod Nicho is Nicholas L as suspected then he works in Customer Support and has only been with Jagex a few months, so it wouldn't be that surprising if he didn't know it wasn't public.

Jagex made a copyright claim on the video and took it down.

Jagex originally said Q1 2009 (Jan-March), then they said March 2009 multiple times, then they said Spring 2009 once. Because Spring includes late March, I'm hoping that they are aiming for a late March release but are just giving themselves some leeway.

Hope he doesn't. It was refreshing to actually have a Jagex employee give its fanbase a small glimmer of hope, but ofcourse Jagex wouldn't tolerate such shenanigans.

Nah, I like your enthusiasm but I'll respect Jagex's wishes.

No point to fuss about it, and we are trying to show Jagex that we are a good site, so no point to cause problems.
But if you ever get videos like that post them on youtube, and tell us. :p

That is purely speculation at this point. Until Jagex releases an official launch date, we will not know when or even what month it is suspected to open.
