It was another day in the Neres Airbase; the newbies were just ready to fly into the air today. We finally got into the air when they picked up an unknown blimp on the radar in restricted airspace. Some newbies and I were ordered to intercept the UFO and escort them either out of the area or towards the airbase to land, or just identify the object, whichever seemed situated for the base commander. With much excitement, the four newbies issued to me boarded their standard issued Nimo-Daras Flathead fighters, as I entered my Karomaz Commander’s fighter with my co-pilot December.
December was a female android that specialized in translation and evasive aerial combat. She was assigned to me after I was notified as an ace pilot in the past wars. Once notified as an ace pilot, the base would create a customized mechanism specialized just for you. Aces would also be given an android or any chosen assistant as requested. I just happened to choose quite a “useless†co-pilot, so I would have a lot of fun to myself. But she has been quite the friend and comfort when needed. Months ago she learned of some top secret information to hold on to, wouldn’t tell me too much of what she obtained. But she did say we would be involved with some project once it was launched, and that it had something to do with taking a construction mech, and making it into a military vessel or such.
“You’re ready to take off,†a male voice was heard
Snapping back to attention, I put on my helmet and launched into the heavens. The scenery was always nice in this area. Safe blue skies, two of this planet’s many moons were always visible. And the nearest star always shined brightly and comfortably, yet slightly hotter as to compare to the Earth’s “Sunâ€. The planet Sinidile’s famous beaches were directly below us now, as we flew towards the unknown object. The water glowed with the morning’s star light, the famous coral reefs were clearly visible in the clean salt waters; I could hear the newbies break in awe on the radio transmitions. Their training never took them to this glorious area; I was in awe as well when I had first seen this about three years ago in the past minor war.
“Alright let’s see here, this is Moonlight 1, Kyo, welcome to my squad. You all hear me ok? State your squad number and codename as you do.†I said on the radio.
“This is Moonlight 2, Forest,†a deep male voice said, “I hear you loud and clear.â€
“This is Moonlight 3, Runite,†a female’s voice said, “Roger that.â€
“This is Moonlight 4, Haze,†a male cyborg spoke, “I hear it.â€
“This is Moonlight 5, Mist,†a female cyborg said, “Affirmative.â€
I looked toward the transmition portraits, of the four newbies. Haze and Mist seemed identical, I couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, Haze and Mist, you two siblings?†I felt a hit on the back of my seat; December would always do that when I did something stupid or unnecessary.
“We got a quick mission to do, save the personal questions until later…†December’s voice was heard on the radio. Followed by a “yes†from Haze. December then spoke out again. “Boogie spotted.â€
“Alright, follow my lead, no one fire anything unless I say so,†I said. It was slightly visible, a completely round, whitish-brown and green aircraft with 7 small red wings pointed back. We then quickly accelerated to the unknown object, as I tried to get a signal from the flying vessel.
“Attention, unidentified air or spacecraft, set your course to our beacon immediately. We will direct you to the nearby airfield lower your gear or respond in anyway if you understand.†I said. We gave it a moment to respond. But what was heard was not legible, it didn’t sound as any human language. “December, can you translate that?†I wondered… someone flying; yet don’t speak any human languages? It was a requirement in the entire known universe, that public and military transport personnel had to know at least a little of any human language. I flew the fighter closer to the vessel, and saw what it really was made of. “Is that thing made of… bone and flesh??†On the side, there was the painting of a skull of an alien with spears stabbed through it.
“Commander, the pilot is saying…`Stay away from me, I don’t want anyone dead.’†December quickly replied, and then answered my next question. “Sir, the language is in Pliigan.â€
Pliigi, ah yes. I thought… they are a highly intelligent race, and recently managed to create vehicles from their bionic technology. But still a striking sight to see… yet, Pliigans always spoke human dialects, why wasn’t this one speaking in it?
“Commander, we got more unknowns inbound.†Forest spoke out on the radio. Amazing he detected them before the cyborgs and December.
In a blink, the first Pliigi vessel flew off without a trace, and 4 more similar looking vessels approached us, and opened fire.
___
"Evasive maneuvers!" I screamed into the radio. 8 red flying projectiles flew towards me as December began to help my fighter make evasive actions. I began to feel slightly dazed as we dodged three red projectiles, it seems they were aiming mostly for me. With much ease, the squad avoided all the projectiles. I quickly looked back, and saw them curling around.
"Crap, looks like they are homing." I said. Four of the strange red projectiles began to follow my aircraft, December had herself controlling my fighter's wings, ready to avoid any collision. Then from out of the blue, a red projectile attached itself to the front of my fighter. It was a gooey substance, at first, it just stayed there doing absolutely nothing, but suddenly, the strange goo began to glow, it became unstable and seemed as though it were about to burst. December and I focused onto the maneuvers of the fighter, after shaking and moving violently, the strange goo fell off and then made an electrical explosion.
"Commander, energy levels at 80%." December said calmly. So these strange projectiles must drain energy from mechanisms and then create an explosive burst using those same energies.
I looked around, 4 other projectiles were still following us. I quickly sped up, and the beautiful sky and sea around me became slightly blurry.
"Fox 1!" Runite yelled out. A small rocket began to fly from her Nimo-Daras Flathead fighter, it quickly curved and flew towards a hostile Pliigan Fighter. Suddenly, a red projectile caught onto the rocket and absorbed it. Then after a red flash from one of the Pliigan Fighters, the red projectile flew with the speed of the rocket back towards Runite. She quickly dodged it, as the projectile then burst into an overwhelming explosion.
My Karamaz Commander's fighter began to descend violently. I glanced back, the four strange projectiles latched onto my exhaust, and began to drain all the energy from my fighter. The fighter stalled and December and I were facing the glowing ocean, the beautiful coral reefs still visible. The fighter began to make a loud hum as it descended, December and I tried to pull up, but it was no use. My control panel shut off, and my hud screen went blank. I heard a large electrical explosion from behind me, the violent descent must've drove the strange red projectiles off, and fortunately exploding sometime after they latched off. In front of me, I saw a Pliigan fighter get shot down by plasma fire from one of the newbies. The radio was silent however. Only six seconds had passed so far, even though the descent felt years long.
With a loud ear bursting splash, my fighter crashed into the water. The cockpit glass began to crack, due to the harsh impact, and water began to drift in. A loud bang was heard again, the fighter had collided with a red coral reef, small multi-colored fish quickly swam away with fright. We were at least 30 feet underwater. This fighter can handle being underwater, only when undamaged, unfortunately, this was severely damaged. The water filled the flooring of the cockpit, movement behind me suggested December panicking. I have to get us out of here, perhaps if I could get the fighter to slightly lift up first, then power it back up using Magics and Telekinesis.
"December, I am going to use Telekinesis to lift the fighter and then repower it." I said.
"Roger, please hurry." December said with some fright. Still amazing, I don't ever recall December being frightened before.
I closed my eyes and concentrated, then reopened them. I started at the front of my fighter and focused. I felt the currents of water slightly change, unfortunately, some more water drifted in as I done so. I placed my hands over some of the cracks, which barely help stop the water flow. The fighter began to slowly move from out of the coral reef. I focused even more, I felt the air around me move, head began to feel slightly fuzzy, in a slightly stressed manner. Then I gave another stroke of focus, the fighter was pushed back, and out of the coral reef. More nearby sea creatures fled terrified. I then lifted the machinery about 20 feet, away from the coral reefs.
Suppressed yet louder sounds of explosions and plasma fire was heard from above the water. I could see the shadows of a Pliigan fighter chasing a Flathead fighter, green substances flew into the water and nearly struck my fighter. It struck the coral reef and dissolved it, it seemed to be acid.
I placed my left hand on my wet control panel, with my right arm grasping tightly my left arm. I focused energy to my left arm, I felt an electrical current flow from my arm, to my elbow, and then focused to my hand. My left hand felt fuzzy, and then I released the electrical magics to my control panel. It felt as though pins were poking my finger tips. A small surge of electricity struck the panel, and then I felt myself get shocked, I released the control panel and flew back onto my seat.
"Crap..." I said to myself.
I tried again, going to have to deal with the pain... I placed my hand back on the panel, and then let the constant electrical surge strike the panel and me. The pain was nearly unbearable, but my hud turned back on, and scattered parts of the panel turned back on. The fighter began to slightly repair itself, something it usually does, but requires at least some power to perform. The cockpit became resealed, as a transparent substance appeared from the cracks and sealed the broken glass of the fighter. A vent opened up and released all the water that was inside the fighter, back to the ocean.
"Systems back online," December cheerfully said.
"Fox 4! Out of missiles." Haze cried out. With the power restored, radio transmitions were heard again "Dang, missed him again!"
"How is the commander?" Mist asked on the radio.
"I think I saw his fighter resurfacing when that boogie chased after me." Forest said. "I think I heard that Andriod girl speak out just now."
I accelerated the fighter, and then burst through the ocean waters, into the heavens. With some cheering and cries heard on the radio. I looked about, and saw that two of the Pliigan fighters were still in the air. One was following Runite, and the other following Haze. Everyone seemed out of primary weapons, as the strange red projectiles were no where to be seen, and no missiles were following the Pliigan fighters. The Pliigans were shooting out the green acidic substances, which seemed very inaccurate, and the Nimo-Daras Flathead fighters were using their plasma guns, but it seemed ineffective against the Pliigan vessels.
So, I followed one of the Pliigan fighters, steadily, December helped maneuver the fighter to lock on the target vessel, the hud hummed with the target in lock, and I fired my primary weapon, a Tactical Laser. From the damaged front of my fighter a red laser emerged and struck the enemy fighter. The fighter began to shake violently, and began exploding. What seemed like flesh spewed out of the aircraft, and then exploded with organic substances flying in every direction. I followed the next aircraft, and fired my laser once again. With the same results, the second enemy fighter descended to the ocean and exploded organically.
With a smile on my face, I spoke to December, "Can you take over the controls?"
"Yes sir." December replied quickly.
I released the controls and then passed out from the exhaustion.
