Blaze lay lazily on the bunk in his room. After their final flight, when they took down the SOLG, there hadn’t been much going on at all. Sure they would go on flights, making sure their air space was secure, but nothing had happened since then.
He lay down, knowing that his squad would be up in the sky again, looking for nothing in the sky once again. He slowly got up off the bunk and began walking slowly down the hall. Joining him as he walked was his wingman, Cpt. Nagase. He also had his other two squad pilots walking with him, Cpt. Grimm, and the newest addition to his squad, second lieutenant, Dave Hunt.
The trio walked quickly towards the hangers to get ready for their “missionâ€, though they weren’t expecting too much to happen. This was a chance, however, to do the thing that they loved to do, be up in the air flying their jets. They all knew that this would be a good opportunity for Dave too, being able to hone his skills of flying, since he was a relatively new pilot.
They quickly got into their gear and into their planes. They started the engines and went through all the pre-flight preparations. They taxied quickly onto the runway and were in the air in a matter of seconds. They quickly gained altitude and speed, and raised their landing gear into the belly of the plane. The roar of the planes was one of the things that they loved about being up in the plane. Though it would just be deafening noise to anybody else who heard it, they were used to it, and it was a big part of their life.
The four planes, flying in their famous diamond pattern, quickly made their way around the local area. Though they weren’t expecting to find anything, they looked closely. Surprisingly, as they made their way above the ocean, a lone, unidentified aircraft made its way towards the squad. The squad changed their course to meet the plane head on.
Blaze came over the radio and spoke out towards the enemy plane, “Attention unidentified aircraft. This is a restricted air space. Change your course, or we will have to shoot.â€
Dave, call signed “Wolf Fang 1†was in shock. He had never been in a combat situation before, and though he was freaked out, he was also a bit excited. He watched his radar, and noticed two small blips come from the bigger dot on it. “He’s firing missiles!†he yelled as he adjusted his course so he wouldn’t be hit by any. The grey target turned to red, and the team knew that he was not a friendly pilot.
They quickly turned around to engage the enemy, though his plane was faster than theirs. He quickly came around and fired another missile. It was able to hit the wing on Edge’s wing, and she started to lose altitude. “You’re going to have to do this one without me†her voice came over the radio. “Take that bastard down.â€
Before anybody had known what was going on, he had come around again, this time with Grimm in his sights. His missile was fired, and though he was able to barely avoid it, the machine gun fire ended up catching him. “Damnit†he yelled over his radio. “How can one pilot be this good?â€
Blaze noticed that none of the pilots were good enough to take this guy down. “Let’s get out of here†came is worried voice over the radio. “We can’t take this guy out right now.†The two remaining planes made their way quickly towards their base. Looking to his side, Dave caught a glimpse of the insignia on the plane, and his heart almost stopped. Looking at the side of the plane, he saw a ribbon insignia with the number 1 on the tail. “Mobius 1†he whispered through the radio. After this was said, the radio remained silent for the duration of the flight home. The enemy planes voice loudly came over the radio. “Come back when you can offer me a challenge.
