So, does anyone play any RTS (Real time strategy) or similar genre games around here? I enjoy them from time to time, but I'm prone to mood swings with them -- On occasion, I'll want to do nothing other than guide my kingdom to glory one battle at a time, other times, I'll hate RTS. Not sure why that is. Anyway, my RTS of choice is Medieval II: Total War, a strategy/RTS game set in early to late medieval Europe and the Middle East. The battles are definately the best part:

It looks hectic, but the ability to hotkey units and the ability to zoom out and see the whole field makes it much more digestible.

A week or so ago I bought myself a new RTS game called Sins of a Solar Empire, though I prefer ones where you can build anywhere like Age of Empires or Starcraft. Sins of a Solar Empire isn't like any RTS I have played, and seems to be lacking a few features, but it's not bad.
What do you think of that RTS minigame that is going to be released for Runescape next month? Looks like the units will be produced in groups, kind of like that game Rome: Total War.

I love RTS games.
I have the entire Command and Conquer series, along with most of the Age of Empires series.
Also my favorite would be the Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War series. And Dawn of War 2 is coming out early 2009, which I'm excited for.
Although I did hear Dawn of War 2 might be rated T instead of M, but hopefully not.

I revently got Rome Total War and that game is epic. The same huge armies of Medieval Total War. Being able to efficiently command an army of up to about 4000 soldiers is just amazing.

I haven't seen too much of Halo Wars but I like what I see. I just hope they don't focus too much on the graphics and not enough on game balance and story. The chances of me getting the game is slim overall.

The problem I find with these games is that there's rarely a winner. It always gets to the point where everyone's defence is so strong that it's impossible to get past, it lasts for hours and at the end you quit either because of boredom or because all of the resources have ran out.
I have Tiberian Dawn, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2, Generals and Age of Empires 2.

I'm currently enjoying halo wars, but as per usual the console controls are letting it down.
Looking forward to Starcraft 2 and mabye Dawn of War, not a warhammer fan really but the lore rox.
And AOE3 is a classic.

Halo wars rox! It's cool as hell controlling a whole halo army and good over the internet. Then again, I'm a sucker for sci-fi.
