Judging Process
There will be 7 judges selected from both inside Mechscape World and outside of Mechscape World, for complete unbiased judging. The judges will be selected by PoultryChamp at her own discretion. Judges will be selected by November 23rd. Judges may not enter the contest. You may inquire about being a judge by November 23rd if you are not going to enter the contest.
Judging Step One: In each category, seven (7) entries will be selected by the community via poll, and an additional three (3) entries will be selected by judges to go onto the sub-sub-finals. If there are less than ten (10) entries in a category, all entries in that category will go onto the sub-sub-finals.
Judging Step Two: During a poll, the judges will choose the top three (3) entries in each category. During this time the judges will also give their votes for Tier 2 winners.
Judging Step Three: The top three (3) entries in each category will go into one final poll to be voted on for the Grand Prize. The one with the most judge's votes in the final poll will be awarded Grand Prize.
In the event of ties, PoultryChamp will break the tie.
Judges decisions are final.


ENTRY
Age of Eligibility: 13 years of age ; 18 to qualify for receiving cash prizes
Requirements:
- Entry must have been made in the past 6 months, preferably created just for this contest as exclusive entry.
- Entry must be your own and derived from your own work or ideas. No tutorial work, fanart based off existing characters, or "renders."
- Must be only your work. No collaboration efforts. Getting advice and constructive criticism on your entry before completion is OK.
- This contest is only available to countries where it is legal. Void where prohibited by law.
- Must provide age, name, description of entry, date of entry completed, and email upon entering.
- Must provide written permission for Mechscape World and/or Laura Reed to display, edit, copy, transmit and otherwise use your work on Mechscape World and approved affiliated sites for an indefinite period. User, however, has the right to retain 100% copyright and may challenge Mechscape World for use of the work at any time.
- Must provide name, complete address, country, phone number, and email upon any win. We are not responsible for lost, returned, damaged or stolen goods.
- Must be a member of Mechscape World forums in good standing. Banned users, suspended users (at time of judging), or users with over a 25% rating do not qualify.
Disqualifications:
- If any of the above requirements are not met, your entry will be disqualified.
- Unshowmanship-like behavior will mean withdrawal of your entry and a 5-day suspension from the forums. You may re-enter if judging has not begun.
- Any entry that is not your work will be rejected and you will be permanently banned.


Entries: One user may submit up to a total of 3 entries in all categories.
(Example: User may have 1 entry in Photography, and 2 in Writing = 3 OR 1 in writing, 1 in Photography and 1 in Trad. art = 3 OR 3 in Photography)

Restricted Styles: Nudity or sexually explicit entries will be rejected. Any entries that resemble existing artwork will be rejected, even if you believe you are the first to draw/write such. Eyeballed works will be rejected.


CATEGORIES & PRIZES

Category One - Traditional Art and Digital Drawings/Paintings
Traditional Art means art created by non-digital means. Pencil sketches, paintings, metalwork, sewing, sculpture, murals, trash art, or other means of traditional artistry. You are allowed to transmit your Traditional Art via scanner or photograph, and you may crop the image, but do not digitally 'enhance' the image unless absolutely necessary in low-light or low-res conditions. Please make note if you 'enhance' the image, as this may be considered in judging.
Digital Drawings/Paintings are characters or backgrounds created via digital method. Either by mouse or tablet. A variety of digital techniques are allowed, including filters, but filters are discouraged.
"What if I take something I drew on paper and remade, or partially remade it, on Photoshop?" - This is considered Digital. Remaking an image digitally such as smooth lineart is considered digital.

Category Two - Digital Graphics
Digital Graphics include signatures, avatars, wallpapers, 3D and web designs/web buttons. You are not allowed to use renders in any of these unless you drew and rendered an image/photo yourself and it is not a derivative
of any game, book, movie, etc in which you do not own.

- Best Signature/Avatar/Wallpaper/Other (Prize: Badge only)

Category Three - Photography
Photography is a picture taken with a camera that is minimally edited. You are allowed to create a border around the photo, but digital enhancing must be kept to a minimum.

- Best Artistic Merit (Prize: Badge only)
- Best Macro/Micro/Still Life (Prize: Badge only)

Category Four - Writing
Writing... Well, write something!

- Best Overall (Grand Prize: Pakol Hat, Mini Leather Notepad, and Pen Set; Retail: $25)

- Best Short Story (Prize: Badge only)
- Best Poem (Prize: Badge only)
- Most Creative (Prize: Badge only)

Note about the prize: The prize is being bought from Therainforestsite, a for-profit company of the umbrella CharityUSA. However the items are fair trade with a small amount of the profits going to charity.

Category Five - Lazy %&*!
Lazy..... You want something? For nothing?! Ok... How about something that will blast your ear off, is small, and has an ironic name. Smokin' Bud earbuds from Skullcandy. Yeah, they're awesome and they're the best earbuds on the market. The catch? They're pink. So when you're talking to your friends and they ask "what the hell is that pink thing coming from your ear?" you can remind them that you are a lazy *&^! and got them in a deal with the devil. Also, that you are gay.. Which will sharply be met with "no ur gay", but they'll realize 10 minutes later that you actually admitted you are.

How to enter: Make one post on the forums between October 17th and November 28th entirely in hot pink.
Also, for every user who creates a post entirely in hot pink between October 17th and November 28th, .25c will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

How do I enter?
Post one topic in the Art Contest forum for each entry. In that topic post the PUBLIC entry form on post #2 above. For each entry, also send a PM with the PRIVATE entry form to PoultryChamp. If there's anything wrong with your post or entry we will contact you and try to get it sorted out before the final deadline.

Can I post a blank WIP as a "placeholder"?
Yes, you can post a blank Work In Progress by November 28th. There is no penalty for not finishing the entry by December 5th.

I want to enter but I missed the WIP deadline!!!
If you've missed the WIP deadline, which is November 28th, you can still post a finished piece by December 5th. We simply won't accept new, in-progress entries, as they may not be finished by the final December 5th deadline.

Please PM an admin. It is of utmost importance that any fakes be weeded out during the judging process. You will not be punished for posting your concerns publicly.


PRIZES:

How do I receive my prizes if I win?
First of all, there's no obligation to give your details if you don't win and if you do win, you can forfeit your prize if you do not want to give your address. If you do win a grand prize you would need to give us your mailing address for physical prizes. We will not ask for your address if you do not win. As always, we'll never ask for your password either.

Do I have to pay for shipping on a prize if I win?
No. Prizes will be sent Priority Mail Flat Rate, and all shipping expenses are the responsibility of PoultryChamp.

How long will it take to get to me?
Ideally, prizes will be shipped December 10th or 11th. Shipping during the holidays usually has a backlog of up to 1 week. You may receive your prize by Christmas.

What if it doesn't get here? What if it's damaged?
Unfortunately if you were to give a fake address, or typo your address, and it is returned to sender, it will not be sent again. If it arrives damaged it cannot be returned as it's already passed the date of return to Amazon.com as of November 17th.
In short, you're out of luck.

Can I get it giftwrapped?
*lol* Sure! Just don't be sad if it gets banged around during transit and opens itself.

Is it possible for someone to be a judge of one category but enter in another. For example, I wanted to enter in the writing group, but could I still judge in another?

Can I be a Judge?

Then I probably wouldn't feel quite so reluctant to enter.

Even though I highly doubt you'd want to use anything I produce in any other way besides displaying in the competition, it still strikes me as odd that you'd even feel the need to include that sort of almost legal jargon in a small scale comp' such as this. Some confirmation/clarification over whether you have simply included that for the sake of covering all possibilities and will in fact just be 'displaying' our work would be nice.

This is because I would like to display winners on our homepage, and perhaps in my deviantART or GaiaOnline journal. Since I wouldn't be able to use full-scale entries on our homepage, obviously, that clause simply means I will be able to crop images, resize them, or summarize someone's writing. The scenario is that I'd need to crop down the images to a 100x100 size, then possible watermark them for display. In no way would I actually steal them or make a profit from them - the user has FULL RIGHT to demand their entry taken off the site for any reason at any time.

Haha, lol. Funny story here. I was prosecuted not too long ago for this little illegal activity I like to call vandilism. Guess what kind....Graffiti. Yea baker, arent you from philly. Dont do it dude, its not worth it. Im currently paying a Near $1000 fine plus probation. I think you could get away with writing mechscape or mechscapeworld. Whose to say baker wants to tag anything like that though. I should go take some pictures of my work, lol. Ahh, I still dont know if I want to be a judge or not....to be continued.

I can not enter sorry. I just got a prodject and what little down time i have is at work. Where i am now. You can blame my English teacher since she just gave me a massive prodject on the play Macbeth. So consider the rest of the entries lucky.

Ok, I just came up with this question. What if someone wins one of the prizes and wants the cash prize to pay for a MechScape World membership. (ie: me) I'm not 18 yet but it wouldn't be sent anywhere or anything. It would just simple go strait to premium membership. From what I understand is that we will be doing this so... yea...

No. It can be anything. I suggest reading this thread before asking another question as this has been asked already.

We can arrange that. We can keep the winner with a Same-as-Cash IOU, then put that all towards a MSW membership.

However, winners who win physical prizes must accept the physical prize. There is no opt-out cash value. If they decide not to take the prize (they could be concerned about me having their address, for example), they have to forfeit the entire winning entry.

I'm being lazy. :P

Oh darn, it seems I've been too busy.

Ah, shoot... I found out about mechscape just today and saw this contest. Already entered info for my profile and stuff, so as you can see, I'm actually a creating a whole new scifi universe all myself, all from my mind. I could have probably entered this and would be cool. Most of my designs are reserved for my stuff and usually drawn up with it in mind, but some i'm not too happy with or don't quite fit, so maybe i could have worked on them for this. So far i've mainly been doing spaceships and mechs. I'm not the best concept artist, I just do stuff by hand, but, oh my gosh, the prize is a wacom tablet!! I need that! Even if it's not the really high end one.

However, I can STILL submit something by Dec 5 if it's finished, right?

I still wish i knew about this earlier, I probably won't have time now since i'm got lots of work on some big projects at college, but we'll see....

PS: I'm a noob here, so excuse me but, I saw a topic that listed three galleries that are on here, concept art like stuff, really cool stuff. What are they exactly, why are they there? :)
