Thanks for the post!
March 2009 as a launch date definitely fits in with "Q1 2009" of his previous statements.
I think the name NextScape was a bit of an in-joke.
I would put this on the homepage, but I don't seem to have the correct access - can you check on that please Daniel?

Runescape’s fantasy world has mostly male players ages eight to 18 which are getting younger as time goes on, admitted Iddison, saying the firm’s strategy currently excluded female players but that “we’ve got some plans there†to redress the imbalance.
"we've got some plans there." Intersting wonder what can they do
to make RuneScape a more enjoyable game for females. Most of the
immature people already ruined the game for a lot of girls...

So we've finally been given a date to look at. Now all we need is Jagex to hurry up and 'accidently' leak some screenshots.

Now I need to see a tiny bit of gameplay footage to see if I will devote any major time to this game. Everything now is a toss up...maybe E3 will shed some light.
Edit-also lets hope for a beta

Very interesting indeed. I don't think JaGeX attend E3's, so I doubt to see anything about it from there. As for a beta? Not like until Q4 2008 in my opinion.

When you guys say Q1,Q4 and so on, what does that mean? lol
and i really hope that mech scape comes out next year, i have been playing runescape for a very long time now and want something new, but everything out there is not at all like runescape (you know what i mean). so im very excited that the kind of release date is not like a couple of years away, rather a couple of months.

It is stated in press releases and news article that Jagex intend to attend E3 to show off RuneScape HD (their new graphics). Search around the forum for links to sources.

After the new graphics updates for RuneScape, then I'm sure the graphics for MechScape aren't going to be half bad. Anyways, I'm glad to see MechScape is slowly being revealed... As "NextScape". ^.^

To be honest, JaGex registered MechScape as a trademark so other players couldn't. Then they would say they are associated with JaGex and blah blah, then JaGex gets screwed over, blah blah, and so on and so fourth. JaGex has too much time to even think about the idea of making a new game, I mean, half of there 300 employees are Customer Support, and the other half is about 100 employees working for RuneScape, the other for funorb, so I am not really believing this MechScape; NextScape theories.

That would mean that:
1.
Develop magazine lied when they quoted Geoff Iddison as saying there would be a new MMO.
2. Jagex created a whole MechScape logo and trademarked it just to prevent rumours (even though it was this which sparked the rumours).
3. Jagex employees lied in their CVs.
4.
Eurogamer lied when they quoted Imre Jele as saying there would be a new MMO.
5.
Jagex are lying on Jagex.com when they have the job for "Quality Assurance Team Leader - Upcoming MMORPG".
Why would Jagex put so much effort into deceiving people into thinking they were working on a new MMO?
Why would former Jagex employees risk their careers by saying they worked on a new MMO at Jagex?

1. MechScape is the only trademark they have besides FunOrb, RuneScape and Jagex.
2. The MechScape logo is futuristic and space-orientated.
3. Former employees described Jagex's new MMO as both futuristic and space-based.
4. Job advertisements for the team leader for their RuneScape game had the code RSTL (RuneScape Team Leader) while one for their 'upcoming project' had MSTL (MechScape Team Leader).
5. The term 'MechScape' is mentioned in the source code on Jagex websites.
6. When asked if their new MMO was MechScape they said they couldn't say any more. If it wasn't MechScape they could easily have said "it ain't MechScape, but I'm not saying any more".

Ren pretty much covered it.
BUT....Lying constantly in interviews loses them respect, as well as people losing respect in them. Also, Jagex is a huge company, and will not go about lying just to mae people not use the name Mechscape.
Secondly, PLEASE point out a few of these "plenly" of lies Jagex has apparently made....I'll wait.

Maybe the person who wrote the article heard wrong. "NextScape", "Mechscape", they sound very much the same. Seriously just change the "m" into an "n" and it will almost sound like "Nextscape".
