Jagex Ltd are the UK's largest independent computer games development studio and the creators of hugely popular and successful online games.

We are looking to appoint a short term contractor / freelancer to help us design a website for one of our upcoming games. Given the size of our target market and audience, this is sure to be a hugely popular website once launched and would be a fantastic addition to any portfolio.

We are most interested in hearing from Web Designers as opposed to Developers. We have our own team of developers but need a highly creative individual to help us concept mock ups for the front end. Expert skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and associated packages are therefore essential.

If you have a true eye for what looks good, what functions well, and would like to significantly bolster your portfolio with a top class project, then contact me for more information.

The contract will be based on site in our Cambridge office. We are open to rates and length will be determined during initial stages. (looking like 2 - 3 months)

Please check out our website or contact me for more information - careers@recruit.jagex.com

If the upcoming game is MechScape then it means it won't be released for a bit yet (considering it'll take 2-3 months for the initial stages of design).

Then again, http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:IUWRS...ob36478331.html is a job advertisement for a Quality Assurance Test Lead from February, and it states "This department currently comprises over 20 testers divided across 4 specific units, and we expect this to double in size as we launch new products". Are the 4 specific units for FunOrb, MechScape, Jagex and a new mystery product (alluded to previously in the statements that they would be launching a number of products). Could this mystery new launch be their mobile gaming service or something different entirely, or do they do units in a different way? All will be revealed in time, I guess.

well funorb came out at least so I'm making $4.00 per day and if it gets popular that will go up to $20 per day so go funorb and if mechscape and funorb both got popular i better quit my job

Subsequent to the original posting in March, they have re-styled the job as graphics instead of web orientated and posted it again http://www.freelancers.net/freelance-jobs-...0804/20697.html

Further to that is this new posting, which seems to want someone to get a job with Jagex as a Website Designer instead of doing it as contract work.

Jagex Ltd, developer and publisher of the MMOG RuneScape, is looking for a talented website designer and developer to join its online publishing team.

Working with our in-house technology and front-end websites, you would be responsible for the design and development of our public-facing websites.

Key duties include:

• Designing and implementing new websites with consideration for usability and functionality;

• Using your artistic approach to create unique designs that inspire our player community;

• Designing new websites from initial concept design through to implementation in HTML/CSS and production of style guides for future updates.

Requirements:

• Highly proficient in handcrafted HTML, CSS and JavaScript;

• Experienced with multi-browser compatibility and data size limitations;

• Able to demonstrate good functionality and usability through current online portfolios / sites (should be good examples of work, not solely Flash based sites);

• Excellent understanding of usability requirements and user-friendly interface design;

· Good 2D layout and graphic design skills;

• Proven track record of creating well designed commercial websites;

• Experienced in working with both static and dynamic content;

· Ability to produce graphical concepts;

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Also useful:

• Degree level education in a related subject;

• Experience with Firebug, AJAX, server-side scripting (eg PHP, ASP) all beneficial;

• A thorough knowledge of Flash.

Salary: £26k - £30k (negotiable, depending on experience) plus excellent benefits package including annual bonus, private healthcare and gym membership.

Location: Cambridge, UK.

It is a little worrying that they look favourably at people who know Flash. I'm personally not a fan of Flash-based websites.

Sounds sweet. I hope it is a good looking site.

I'd be happy to work on content for it, primarily FAQ and gallery (I've got a fair few new pics, and really we need to put them in some sort of order).

Nah, from what we can gather their new MMO won't arrive until the middle of 2009. I'm expecting some sort of concrete announcement about the game at the end of this year though, and possibly a beta a few months before the scheduled release.

Assuming they decide on someone early May (which seems very optimistic considering they are still advertising the job) and it takes 3 months to design the site then it'll be designed by August. When the design is done it still needs developing. So no, I don't think that means MechScape will be released in 2-3 months.

Jele said 2009 for the 'new MMO'. I've seen nothing convincing which points to any particular part of 2009.

thanks the new link worked so tell me if it needs more developing what type of developments would they be working on because from my knowledge people would work on the game first then work on the site.
because working on the site is like icing on the cake
