Details
Salary
£30-34k+ depending on experience, plus excellent benefits package including annual bonus, private healthcare, gym membership and other benefits.

Location
Cambridge, UK. Candidates must be able to work in Cambridge or relocate if offered the position. Interviews will be held at the Cambridge office.

Make what you will of the fact that they use the term MMOG and not MMORPg.

Also note that they are still hiring MechScape content developers and are now hiring a lead modeller to work on "one of our massively multiplayer online games".

Awesome discovery! Great work Ren.
This is obviously Mechscape and they say "upcomming MMO" but if their just now trying to hire a "Game Development Team Manager" for a "Upcoming Project" I think we'll see a many more months before Mechscape is out.
Ren
The fact that there is a vacancy doesn't mean it it is a newly created post. It could have been held by someone who has moved to a different department, left the company or something like that.

http://www.reed.co.uk/Job/Details.aspx?JobID=15436158 describes it as an "upcoming MMORPG".

This would mean that Jagex are investing £258-299+ per anum on Mechscape content development, and that doesn't include graphics, engine, marketing and website work.
Arain
MechScape has to be their "upcoming MMO" because even tho i quit RS nearly a year ago. A friend told me that the players are allowed to post threads about MS on the RS forums. now if it was nothing J mods would never let any MS thread on the RS forums.
Ren
Another find relating to this vacancy....

The RuneScape Games Development Manager vacancy has the job reference runetl (source).
The "Upcoming Project" Games Development Manager vacancy has the Job Reference mstl (source).

If "runetl" means RuneScape Team Leader then "mstl" would logically mean MechScape Team Leader.

Well they refer to RuneScape as an MMOG or MMO mostly like in the main advertisement for it. Im sure Mechcape will be an MMORPG.
Skandranan
Hmm, interesting. So it looks like they've got a decent ammount of people working on it. I hope they find the right person to "lead the way," if you will.

Nice find:)

Nice find m8 biggrin.gif
Tho they said theyre working on an mmo with current rs tech
Now see,rts will have completely different controls than ones that r in rs atm,and theyd need better graphic for fps.
Try imagining fps with great graph thats played and based on java... cool.gif
Ren
Graphics - Unit Leader.

"This role is to support the Graphics team in the creation of models and art assets for one of our massively multiplayer online games... Requirements: Experience of commercial 3D packages such as XSI, Maya and 3ds Max, working on a variety of modelling projects involving the creation of characters, creatures, vehicles and architectural assets;"

Someone to work on "one of their" MMORPGs... which one? Well, the one with heavy focus vehicles (which ain't RuneScape, right?).
frostguy
But they also said they wont just allow anyone to join they want specialize people to be apart of the group
Ren
The new post of Associative Producer seems fairly similar to the old vacancies for Team Leader and Development Manager....

I'm sure MMOG is just short for MMORPG.
Arain
so there is a chance its not going to be a role playing game?

Yeh there is a chance but i still think its going to be MMORPG.
The only other things it could be are MMORTS (Real time strategy)
or MMOFPS (First person shooter)
I doubt it would be those two.
vISTA
Of course, another great/interesting find for Ren.

No, because subsequent recruitment material found has called it an 'Upcoming MMORPG'.

Well, the 'upcoming MMORPG' vacancies want people with a sci-fi interest so I'm guessing so.
Ren
A random thought: MechScape's release will most likely have to be preceded by a heavy recruitment for customer support personnel.
Max
Mechscape's release will probably be a year after or more since they are still trying to hire staff. (It can be 3 years, I don't mind...) I'm hoping that it will be similar to Runescape and not so many "mini-games."

MMORPG=Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game
MMOG=Massive Multiplayer Online Game
The difference is it would not be a role playing game. Weird. But yes, I also think they mean an MMORPG.

MMOG is just less descriptive as a MMORPG. Really, mmog + rpg = mmorpg. blink.gif

Well, I suppose you could just role-play while shooting or strategizing.

you don't mind even if it's released after 3 years? if it doesnt release (maximum) the start of next year then i doubt i will be playing it
Arain321
Lol if it were released after three years..then...i would expect it to be the best game ever made.

It could be the same support as RS though, automated responses. They could also just train the current support staff, but we'll see if they have a big recruit for customer support
