With all the No so great updates lately and the often no update week I was wondering what It would be like If jagex did 3-month update Cycles, Where we would get many high quality updates at once. Tell me what you think, Its likely that jagex would never do this because of the community already being use to 1 week updates. But who knows....

By 3 month update cycle I mean all the updates they would in the pipes would be released every 3 months.

Pros and Cons (Feel free to add to this)

Pros:
-A lot of content at once
-high quality

Cons:
-Waiting
-People too lazy to find out what has been updated
-If something that your really looking forward to gets pushed back, You have to wait another 3 months

Tell me what you think
Ed5
They still update every week? I thought it was like every other week, and once every 1-3 months a big update.
Yeti
They try to update every week, but there is ALOT of updateless weeks

I voted for the 3 month thing because i misread it. But i should have voted for the other option. This is my idea:

every week we get a small update for 2-4 weeks.

then that 3rd 4th or 5th week we get one big update and a few minor or small ones.

It would still keep those we need weekly update ranters at bay and still give us a good update once in a while.

Actually in october 2008 they promised that every 5 week month they would have a godwars dungeon sized update. Boy did they lie

Yeah, this is sort of the same idea I had (4th or 5th week). Except I would not expect to get most of the updates being f2p. happy.gif

I'd be ok with every 3 months, as long as it was a decent sized update.
Lord John
They basically do update each three months. A lot of weeks are "no update weeks" and most updates are too small or insignificant for anyone to care about. They only release something people actually like once each three months. I think they should really read suggestion forums on fan sites because all those ideas are far better than the ones Jagex are currently using.
Crash Jordan
Every 5th week is a no update week, John.

Jagex need to stop updating things that people don't want. We don't want a champions scroll update, we want a new dungeon or a skill update. We don't want one of the few moneymaking skills nerfed, we want it made more fun and interesting.

Jagex updating a game that has 4 races is gonna be lolz, they won't be able to handle it.
Hayaemsay
I'd prefer whatever cycle it takes them to make each update decent.

with minor updates that don't have to large of an affect on the game, keep the quests and fixes and achievement diaries rolling please.
Hayaemsay
I second that, finish the damn diaries.

And we're still waiting on the Fairy update which is useless because when I was a member I never went to Zanaris at all. It's like updating the basement of Varrock bank. No one goes there or cares what it looks like.

Its still better than it being blue.......

Although I can't wait to do the quest

I like the way it is now, and they do, do big updates every 2-3 months.

Zanaris is probably my third most visited location.
MC
I remember back in the day when Slayer was criticized as being a pointless skill and a waste of time. Why get told to kill things when you can kill things anyway? Now it's one of the most popular skills to train. Every update on RuneScape is hated by its infamous vocal minority that are apparently masochists who play the game they seemingly despise. A lot of updates are indeed sort of useless in the long run, but if you asked the community of RS, every update would be below shit on the value scale.

False. Zanaris is the hub of the fairy rings, which is one of the most handy free teleports in RuneScape - more so with how easy it is now to dial a location. It's also the (former) site of a popular, profitable magic training method and the cosmic altar as well as zygomites...

I'd like to point out that this is the year of fixes for Runescape. They said this at the beginning of the year:

QUOTE
Well, this is the challenge that we’ve set ourselves: 2009 has become our official Upgrade Year! So, what does that mean? It means our New Year's resolution is to tweak and polish what we've already got in the game alongside creating new content. For example:

* Doing the 'little' jobs that make a big difference (e.g. a 'You are here' arrow on the world map) and basically fixing all the annoying little quirks the game has. Things that may be the least glamorous to work on and talk about, but which really add up.
* Updating some of the earliest content/quests to bring it up to date, and take advantage of all the features we have added to the game engine since it was originally created. Also, reworking old clues that no longer work now the game is bigger (e.g. 'Look west of the mountains' was fine when there was only one mountain, but not now).
* Making the interfaces as intuitive, flexible and user-friendly as possible.
* Then, after all that, we’ll start looking into abandoned and barely used areas/features of the game, and breathing new life into them.

Of course, we don't want to JUST do upgrades, so we're planning to do a mix of upgrades and new content. To achieve this we are planning on going back to releasing approximately four updates per month, which will alternate between upgrades and new content.

Note the "tweak and polish what we've already got" and "approximately four updates per month, which will alternate between upgrades and new content" statements. This was year of the fixing and polishing, not year of the OMFG new dungeon. I fully expected this, as that's what they said they were doing. The lack of updates is simply because of all the fixing going on behind the scenes. Look at this week's patch notes:

This year is not just dedicated to tweaking, in a Q&A they mentioned that only a small portion of the content team were actually devoted tweaking. This should not prevent new content of a larger scale, the reason we have not seen such is because a lot of focus was put into extending existing skills (Herblore, Mining, Fish, Agility, Prayer, Woodcutting).

Most of what is mentioned in the patch notes probably don't require a huge time investment
killrrhubarb
Exactly. A year of updates is not just confined to tweaking stuff that is wrong, but adding major stuff that improves the fun-level of the game as well. So far this year Jagex has not added many major fun stuff to do, just tweaked the old stuff. This is probably why so many new content has been pushed back. Hopefully they will add a bit more content at the end of this year or next year, at least. After all, next year is meant to be the "year of awesomeness".

Hay thats the problem.
Little team fixers devoted to tweaking.
The fixers aren't having enough time to fix an update that is planned and current ones, resulting into no update weeks and if an update is released it will have alot of bugzzzz.
and last week's had a [b]WAY[/b[ bigger list.
For fixing something you have to always find a way to fix it which takes time.

I think Jagex should make a good update every two weeks or so, and maybe a huge update around Christmas and call it their present to the players!

All they do around christmas is a simple event that has a simple reward

They should update whenever they finish something.
