What are your views on the Twilight series of books, MSW? Do you love them or hate them, or are you somewhere in between? Are they completely useless or is the criticism overblown for something that's meant to be a fun read? Are they in fact a good read and it's just that that loveless old scrooges that the people of the intertubes are don't get them?

Have you got a funny or horrifying story about the books or more likey the fans?

Twilight = huh.gif confused.gif down.gif

The movie completely killed the books and how they were meant to be portrayed. The books were actually quite good, but not the best written by Stephanie Meyer and definitely not the best book I've read. The best book written by Stephanie Meyer is The Host, and even if you are not a fan of Twilight I'd suggest reading it.

sucks

I have to say that I'm not a fan. I read the books through and I found them boring, until the last one which was okay-ish but not worth the rest of the series.

Haven't read or seen them, but from what I can gather, every teen girl actually read the books, and now they'll just watch the movies. Books that get people reading these days are fine.

I enjoyed the books (before they were... popular), and was planning on reading the last one. But the hype and hatred towards them completely turned me off from reading it.

I've read them all and watched the movie, which I have to say, was not very good. I liked all of the books, but I didn't get any credit for them at school. We have Accelerated Reader (you might have heard of it, it is basically reading the book, taking an online test on it, then getting points depending on how well you do, and at our school, if you don't get all of your points, the number is assigned by the teacher, your will fail the six weeks) and our teacher assigned us a point range, so we can't take a test on anything under our level. My lowest level was a 5.0 (that was after purposely missing a few questions on the test because I knew this would happen) and the twilight books are 4.8. I was angry...

Woah! I'm veering off course! Feel free to continue with the topic :D

I read the books and enjoyed them for what they were. I didn't expect great literature, but they were fun to read. The movie was ok. The next one looks much better. I think people just expected too much out of both the books and the movies. They're fun, not deep, and seriously romantic with a little action thrown in.

I don't really get why you have to get credit for reading books for them to be good?

I mean, I don't have anything like that, and I still read lots of books because I think it's fun.

The book was good, the movie really sucked. There was just something missing in it, it was sort of boring.
Anna
I enjoyed the books

but
i think bella is boring, she whines a lot, demanding, and she's always suspicious.
i think edward is a pedophile and his personality is too old.
Hayaemsay
I'd like to punch Stephanie Meyer in the throat.

I find the entire series is criticized too often by the general public.
Hayaemsay
The criticism is merely a reciprocation for it's popularity.

Not merely - aspiring writers and literary buffs are all irked that such an untalented writer is raking in the bucks while real talent so often flies under the radar of the general public. She's just cashing in on a fad. There's not much talent there, and she's really not a particularly capable person...remember the next book in the series? Yeah, there isn't one, because an early draft got leaked and Ms. Meyer threw a hissy fit and quit writing.

Popularity usually implies financial success.

I wasn't aware of this, I thought the series ended with the happily ever after.

Yeah, she was writing a book on Edwards side of the story. It would have been even more boring than the books out so far if she continued on writing it. Anyway, she didn't like people saying how boring it was and stopped writing it.
The reason she quit writing an entire series for The Host, which is her best book, is because of the little popularity it received compared to Twilight. This is probably because The Host is aimed at an older audience than the Twilight books and a lot of teen girls didn't like it.

Reading the first 3 chapters as my sister and brother are fans of this shit i found them to say tooooo many emotions.
Bella felt scared then shocked then sad then... what?
It was repetive and boring.

Mr. Chambers! Don't get on that ship! The rest of the book, "Twilight", it's... it's a vampirebook!
AfterThought
well personally....i just watched the movie New Moon, here at about 1 AM..... it was pretty good... although a complete girl movie (not being sexist here.....its just its genre)... the fighting is probably the catch to all the male audience, as the romance was a bit dry (could possibly blame the actors).... one thing that kinda bugs me about the story is that she makes the decisions too quickly, as she JUST stopped loving Jake and then agrees to marry Edward
although personally i do find the Vulcan and the mythology interesting (although it's completely reworked from the true (and by true i meen standard) mythology of wearwolves and vampires... but it does bring an interesting view on it, saying that this is modern, teen love (although the Edward charicter should know better.... he's 100 years old, right?)
for her fame: yes, it should recieve critisism. its popularity is only a result of its design for pre-teen girls (although morphing it to somewhat acceptable standards to more audiences) who seemed to have spread it quite far. it is by far not the best love story i'v read (i prefer War and Peace, the condensed, 700 page one was fine) it is not the worst.
THIS IS BASED SOLEY ON THE 2nd NEW MOON MOVIE oppinions are subject to change. SLIGHTLY, though
overall rating: 3.3/5 (rough estimate)

I've only seen the movies, the fights are kewl.

Edit - sorry, he's not metrosexual, he's british. I always get confused. And here's him reading ch.1 if you want to go in order http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L253VLwH3w
MadMech13
I read the whole series and the one I liked the most was Eclipse, the rest were a little on the line close to boring.
Had the most action if my memory serves me right.
