Kinda strange... I've been a member for... 2 years and 1 day... but people who have been here for only like a week have a higher ranking than me? (Member 21 or so out of 10000...)

Is there any reason for this, or is it not even happening?

No, I don't hate the staff or the system, this is simply a question...

Just for the record, and to stop arguments:

Hope to get an answer to this...

Post Count

If I posted at the same rate as most posters I'd most likely be spamming. Kinda sucks for me?
Darth Irule
As ranks, are you talking about the ranks on your profile page or the one under your avatar? The one under your avatar depends on your post count. The one on your profile page is all user based.Say someone just joined. Someone can go to their profile and rate them 5 stars. Then another person goes and ranks the person. There rank will change depending on what the person ranked them. I tend to see that inactive members get lower ranks by people because they are inactive.

And if you are worried about spamming then just make sure you make detailed posts, reply's, that go with the topic.

Hope this helps!

Both. Inactive? Yer, tight schedule, plus I spend quite a bit of time breaking my record in Mini Pool in the Arcade... (Record went from 2800 to 3000 to 3600 to 3800 then 4000 now.)

I think this is love not really fair in those terms, but if it's based on opinions then fine.
Psst: Scroll over love

If you are wondering why your post count is so low, it might be that you are posting in the wrong category. Some of the categories are set so that posts there do not count towards your post count (I'm pretty sure that this one is like that). You might only have posted mainly in the off topic forums (or other non-counting forums).

EDIT: Ok, this does count towards your post count, or at least, I think.

Yeah, this does, and I haven't posted in a forum where it doesn't count in a long time.

Well if you do something to contribute to the forums then it will go up. The main way to contribute at the moment is to post your
thoughts/ideas/opinions/etc..
Not everyone who has a blue pip has 1k post, one of our old admins have a blue pip.
I am not 100% sure where you are getting the 'rank' thing, are you just talking about post count?

Depends, are the vote options about post count? If so then I'm posting about the wrong thing then...

EDIT: Is it normally 'ranked' this way?
Ed5
Well the ranks depend on the post count, someone could join today and pass your rank, might be spam but still possible.
But ranks are really nothing, as long as you post very informative post with good grammar(and follow the rules) then you
would be a very respected member of the forums.

I voted admin and I've been here for over 2 years.

Why do you think you can just register and gain ranks? You're not participating in the forum if you're not posting
Dirk
How long you've been here has nothing to do with it. The basic member ranks are mainly, but not solely, based on post count. To get anything above that you have to contribute to the community, show maturity, be active, and be able to do it all it consistently.
TehBigGun
Yup just as everyone said, ranks depends on your posts.
HeartFlame
This totally matters.
Aslancsc
you could totally have like 5 thousand posts if you were an active member in the community. I must admit that my first 100 posts were mostly non-community oriented, but I tried not to spam. I just looked at every single topic that I wanted to say something about and said it.
unorclan
I could just repeat everything everyone has said, because yeah, they are right. It's post count, but not just post count but more about just being active in the community.

They're to distinguish Moderators, Admins, Staff, and our most active members, exactly. Thus, they aren't useless -- They have a very defined purpose.

You get to being a blue member by accruing 1000 posts (Or in very very very rare cases an Administrator may make you a blue before you reach 1000. However, only two people have ever had this happen; one is a former site admin and the other, well, it was a fluke that wasn't reversed because it wasn't a big deal and they're an active member anyway.)

And if you're curious how this MC guy became moderator, I fucked the admin. Literally.

It's not all about post count. Staff and ranks higher are taken through a process to get there.

Being just active in the community will increase your post count because you are responding to others and such. I really wouldn't see it as much as posting as much as just being proactive in the community. I'm more of a rep guy then post guy even though I look like a lier due to my post count.

Right... the difference between a MSW Member++++ spammer and me is they are more active? Yer... dry.gif down.gif

Not that I'm spamming... but yeah, I got promoted to MSW Member++ biggrin.gif

All MSW Member++++ are not spammers, the reason why they were still around to get that many posts is because they do not spam, but rather write out well-thought out, meaningful posts. You get 'promoted', if you will, on the number of posts you have. Because you past the 50 post mark, you became a member ++. When you pass the 100 post mark, you become a member +++, and finally when you pass the 1000 post mark, you become a member ++++. Of cause you could become a moderator, staff or donor if you either decided to donate some money, put down your name for a staff position (the forums are in need of no staff at the moment), or are awesome enough to get picked for moderator.

Let's be clear, an inactive Myrune > MSW vet. Someone who had little to no posts, an amount that could be realistically achieved in a week or so.

Maybe that's why the people who have had more of an impact on the community by actually posting rather than registering, doing nothing and expecting praise actually have higher ranks. And that's not to mention that anything until staff positions is pretty much based entirely on post count.

Basically, if you had been active and posted a couple of posts, even a post a day for that time, you would be known and respected. Not because you would have had a higher post count, but because people would have known your name and started to associate it. Turning up and going "LOOK AT MY MEMBER NUMBER RESPECT ME" is not the way to become popular.

And finally, read the rules. If you're such a vet and clearly are so respectable, why you insist on 8 posts in a row when there's a perfectly good edit button is beyond me. Unless of course you want to boost your post count, in which case I don't buy it.

8. Complaining About Rules/Mods/Actions
Members have the right to question a moderator's action if kept civil. If you see someone breaking the rules then use the report facility or contact a moderator/administrator. Do not post on a thread just to state that a rule has been broken. If you see an off-topic post then don't make another off-topic post just to complain about it, and instead post something relevant to get the thread back on track.

Yep, sent him 2 quick and flame-less PMs.

Rather than wait for another response or try and troubleshoot with this, I think I'll just post this as it is.

Quite strange, are we going back to the topic yet?

Oh woops, the quote thing doesn't work with edits does it? I'm a vet who knows most things... not the new implements or the things not said.
QUOTE (Sofee @ Nov 14 2009, 12:18 PM) *
Right after you posted 8 in a row, you double posted. And after Drachen warned you.

I agree with Hay, that's a crap excuse. The quote name comes up when you press the +QUOTE button. Even better, don't reply to every single person.

Drachen warned me about what?
It being crap? Yeah, did he care to tell me how to even use the multi-quote function?
And neither did you. I rest my case?

Warn was probably the wrong word, but I did point out that you posted the equivalent of spam. (8+ posts in a row)

I care so much.
QUOTE (Drachen @ Nov 13 2009, 06:40 PM) *
Is the above posts the "spam" you were talking about am64360?

Very clever... replying to each post individually... when there is a multi-quote button(called quote, lights up red to show you've selected that post)...

To be more clear:

You click "Quote"(near "Reply" button on someone elses post) it lights up read, then at the bottom of the page you click "Add reply" and it quotes the selected quotes in your response... can't get much more clear than that.

Right? And there was a glitch that prevented me from doing so. Damn flood control glitch from another topic.

It wasn't spam, you wouldn't honestly want to quote a 10000 character post just to see yours with my response, would you?

Flood control isn't a glitch, it's to stop you from say... flooding aka spamming. You click "Quote" you don't click "reply" to every individual post.

Yes I would. Wall of text's are better than 8 separate posts.

Wall of text would've taken me 3 hours. Those 17 (Yes, I counted) posts took me 58 minutes. Wall of text would've been difficult to interpret.

If we kept it at a wall of text, the post would be at about 16000 characters, which would be terribly difficult for someone to interpret and still be able to catch up with what we're saying.

Seeing as double posting is against the rules it would probably be better that you write it all in one post. That is just my opinion I mean I don't want to get banned or anything.

Wall of Text or multi-quote would have taken you at most 2 minutes depending on how elaborate you wanted to be with your replies.

because you would quote multiple posts in one post.
