Full Version: Send Us Your Specs 2009

QUOTE (RuneScape Main Page)
Back in May 2008, we asked players to send us their computer's system specifications. The information that we gathered from this proved to be very helpful, so we'd like to repeat the process again this year.

If you'd like to send us your computer's specs, please visit this link and log in to begin. You will be guided through an agreement page to make sure that you understand what is required, and the process does not take long, so you should be back to RuneScape in no time.

The applet is completely secure and official. We can guarantee that your information will only be used by Jagex to develop future games and improve RuneScape. It will not be shared with any other organisations.

Once you have downloaded and used the program it will tell us the following things about your computer:

* Your operating system
* Your graphics card
* Your CPU
* Your Java version
* Relevant graphical drivers

When we've gathered together all of this information, we can begin planning RuneScape improvements and our future projects to work within these specifications. This means that very few people will miss out on any such future updates.

Jagex is collecting updated information again. When you send it in, though, it gives you a thank you message and explains that the information is potentially to gauge the specs of future games. Since we need to grasp at straws here anyway for info, I'm going to assume one such future game is our beloved Stellar Dawn? It did just enter redevelopment, so perhaps they're gearing it higher, or leaving it the same, based on this survey's results.

The first thing I thought when I saw this was Stellar Dawn. The project has just been 'restarted' so they may be looking to up the graphics to make it even further away from 'RuneScape in space'.
Yeti
Hell yes, Looks like either they are doing RSHDHD or doing something with stellar dawn
Aslancsc
they might be trying to create a new version of runetek. runetek 5 was made for stellar dawn/mechscape and I bet they are always happy to upgrade.

It probably has something to do with the RS HD update I've heard about that is going to keep it from eating up so much CPU power. But, who knows, it could be something much more exciting.

And maybe this is just me...but I'd like to know how I compare to other RS player's computers. 'cause I'm pretty sure I'm in the top 10% with my 2.4 Ghz processor...but maybe not. See, I'd just like to know?

Duo 2.4 - and I'm on a laptop, so anything on a desktop is going to preform better. And my graphics card gives me issues with Spore and a few other games, but it's perfectly sufficient for RS HD. Maybe top 15%...

Sounds like we might be seeing a graphical improvement in Runescape, and they may be compiling information for the graphical specs of Stellar Dawn, too. Very Interesting.

*drools* Soooo beast,I only got 1 gb of ram =(

I sent in the specs for my super old computer. Maybe this will help them, but I doubt it.

This is telling me that they believe that they can go almost anywhere they want with the engine they have, but they want to make sure not to go so far that some people can't play it. It does sound like they have a lot of graphical enhancements they would like to implement, but they want to see how much they actually can without cutting the player base.

EDIT: To the above poster, you should feel lucky! I have half a gigabyte of RAM. It failz.

What's the point of the computer specs poll? Jagex should make RuneScape graphics amazing, add low graphics settings for people with old computers, and be done with it until computer hardware catches up.

The problem with that is technology is always advancing, and can't be halted. The other problem is that many people either can't afford a new computer or are too lazy to buy a new computer or update theirs (according to some internet poll, about 1/4 of America is still using IE6)

As far as adding low graphics, I'm pretty sure that they are planning to do that, but they want to see how low the graphics need to go.

As responsible users looking forward to the Stellar Dawn release, I think we owe it to Jagex to offer them this information. It looks like they are changing the engine a bit from RuneScape and are wanting to ensure the new game is still as compatible, but I think by asking for this info they just want to see how far they can actually push it. This leads me to think they are going to make it more than RuneScape.
MadMech13
I see, hopefully they give me a reason to upgrade my PC.

My specs are as follows : (anyone know if they're even decent....)

Chip type: GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Processor: AMD Sempron™ Dual Core Processor 2200 (2 CPUs), about 2.0GHz
Memory: 1918MB Ram

Well I think that's the most important stuff and I really doubt it's even decent lol.
Lord John
Wonder if they'll appreciate my specs...
[/sarcasm] :P

and?

So they add graphics OPTIONS for Max, High, Medium, Med-low, and low setting for the people that actually don't upgrade.

I thought stellar dawn instantly. I wonder if this was like a "duh" after they scrapped it. "Hey, we never really figured out what the minimum requirements for SD were originally, now's a good time to start?".

It would totally suck if SD came out and not many people could play it.

They did one right before HD. I believe this'll be for another upgrade, ie; bloom, reflections, skyboxes, etc.
