I have this strange addiction to the old Age of Empires II on the PC.

Anyone else enjoy this game or maybe discuss games that are like AoE.

I love Age of Empires. I have Age of Empires 1 and 2, and the expansion for both. I also have a lot of similar strategy games such as Rise of Nations and Civilization 3 and 4.

I have played AoE, and beat the Asian and the Chinese Dynasty. but I removed it before I finish the other one.
Used to play Stronghold Crusade, that was like 4-5 years ago though, enjoyed it lots.

They don't make RTS's like they used to. AoE 1 was win except for the 75 population cap. What was up with those priests? Aooowwaaahahwa! Next time I want to brainwash someone I'll have to try that out.

Wait until StarCraft II comes out. That is supposed to be using today's technology but keeping the essence of the older classics.

Oh and that leads to my addiction to StarCraft. I was addicted to it for a long time before RuneScape and even during my early years of RuneScape. Then I got addicted to RuneScape only to go back to StarCraft again because I love the gameplay and creating maps.

I've played Empire 1,2 and Earth.Empire Earth was my favorite.

I am a huge RTS fan lol.


Age of empires II was great, I didn't really like the third for some reason, didn't have the same feel.

My favorite is Rise Of Nations and it's expansion, so much win (once you've modded out nukes)

Empire earth II is really good too, but it's best played multiplayer IMO.

EE3 is just terrible.

Oldschool RTS is always where it's at.

Also try the Total war series, I like "Rome: total war" best with Realism mod.

Star Wars Battlegrounds anyone? It was pretty much AoE II but with star wars, land and air units. Epic win.

I love AoEII, and have spent many hours conquering with the Mongols.

If we're going to talk about classic RTS games, you can't forget Command and Conquer and C&C Red Alert. So epic games. I started playing red alert 1 when I was 5 years old and I still love playing it. I played AoE 1 & 2 with the expansions, and loved making epic battles with the map editor (I'd have 10 teams with crazy amount of resources and huge bases with a small no man's land and just fight it out) but I also had the Empire Earth 1 and it's expansion. I also have Rome: Total war, Rise of Nations (another epic game with an awesome map editor that makes for great fun) and it's expansion. I guess I was raised on RTS's and I still have all of my old ones and I still whip them out every now and then. Stronghold was a pretty cool game too, but I think it has a lack of distinct units that made me not like it as much, but I like how you have to actually have an understanding of economics to succede in that game, so that makes up for the lack of awesome combat.

How do you turn this on anyone?
I barely even cheated the whole game because I enjoyed the regular game more.

I miss that game so much. That was my first RTS that I got really hooked on and played forever.

Me and my bro played AoE far too much. Old pirated disk copy of AoE1 got me rollin.

We had AoE 3 online for a while, but the computer could never really handle it.

I love Age of Empires because I cheat it and do nothing but Death Matches.

My strategy is build up defenses, walls, guard towers, ect and then the other King's wave after wave of troops come in and I try to hold them off. Eventually, if I can survive, the other King's men all die off and I quickly rebuild and go smother him because he already wasted all his men trying to kill me and has no good defense.

I hate the population limit. I want a MASSIVE army and I can only go to 200. Is there any cheat to get around that?

Never played it but I want to try it, Maybe when I have a extra 30$ I'll go buy AoE 3 at best buy

Nope, there's no cheat for that. Well, they've got to have a limit, and 200 is not that low ...

I bought AoE 1 & 2 + Expansion for only $10 at Walmart.




True, but when I'm totally winning and decide that I just want to build an awesome Empire before I finishing wiping out my enemy....the population limit sometime's limits my awesomeness. I usually start sacrificing 5-10 villagers so I can create a couple more ships or horsemen....yes, it's sad.

Yeah, those were great too. Not as good as AoE II, though.




Oh, yes, Red Alert rocks. Although, I prefer Tiberian Sun. Both of those games totally ruled my childhood, though (along with AoE II, of course).

Oh gosh, it's been so long since I picked up those games...1 and 2 were awesome, though I probably spent more time on 1 just because I had a lot more free time when I was younger lol. Anyone played Supreme Commander? It's got a hokey plot, but awesome game mechanics.

You could try google and type AOE II population limit mod.
