A plexus is "an interwoven arrangement of parts; a network" (source). In terms of etymology it derives from Latin, from plex-, past participle stem of plectere [plait, interweave] (source). While it has certain specific meanings in biology, in computing it is also the name for "A modular World-Wide Web server written in Perl by Tony Sanders [which] comes with interfaces to allow many other information services to be served via the Web" (source).
