The current mechscape looks ok and seems to play well. Why stop us from playing the BETA version of the game while they clear up the rest of it. It's not rocket science. Release he old version for us or at least proritse and make the f2p world quicker so we can try out that.

Theories:

Henrique Olifers (or whatever his name is lol) had quit (fact up until this point in sentence) due to the fact mechscape has been stripped back to the bones for re-modeling. My theory is they want the technology from 2007-8 when they made alot of it updated. But then if they do that surely in 2010 they will still be slightly behind...

Now the above video features the game from quite a while ago by the looks of it yet it still seems fine and fully playable if you excuse the hypercam used. I would be more than happy to use this as a beta.

No beta because Jagex is like building the core aspects right now due to the need to want to get the release right the first time.

We've known about the video for a couple days now.

The truth is, Jagex is completely renewing the game. What you see in that video is not what you will play on it's release.

I suggest you read this thread. The OP is a Jagex Mod, as well as another boy in purple.

Stellar is right. They can't release the BETA because they are still working on it.

Beta means, "Ok, everything's setup, now we need to make sure it works with real players." Stellar Dawn isn't even in Alpha stage.

Edit: Poll, why? It's proven they can't release beta with the amount of work they've done. Beta right now would be a hell of a lot of development textures and animations.

My guess is, there is nothing to beta test right now. And quite frankly, there wont be anything to beta test for at least another half-a-year. AT THE VERY LEAST.

So basically, wait 'til the summer of next year, then you may THINK about posting such a thread. Even then, I suggest that you wouldn't. ;o You see, Jagex has their sort of... How should I say... "Ethics". If they wanted to release a game that's not half finished, they would have already done so. But they don't, so they won't. So... Stop asking that.

Hmm. Understood. If they did prioritise the BETA though it would mean, judging it is the scale of the RS version which is about 1-3 on the map then if should take one quarter of the time to achieve the free to play version. But then it does not as you must factor in the key system but aha! The key systems and skeletal framework have already been made. There still must be a bit of programming but I believe maybe considering they re-started about one months ago that the f2p BETA could be ready by late spring.

The key features is the beta does not matter in the slightest for quality and the decorations. I'm not asking the to release a half finished game. I am asking for a small half finished preview. It's just about testing for bugs and seeing the inital reaction. It can be easily played without any high detail characters or anything. The game is going to take a while to be fully finished but the beta may be done well before then.

90% certain it's real. I discovered it while researching but since then it has dissapeared. This version is one that somebody else has taped off it I am guessing.

I would rather play an awesome game with a great script than a rubbish game with good graphics. Take RS classic for example. Runescape is built on good content yet bad graphics and to be honest the time spent on runescape hd I would rather have seen more quests, more skill updates and an end to the GE without even mentioning the words "eastern continent".

I'm not playing stellar dawn for the graphics when it comes out.

I would definately do anything for a beta now - even if what we do in-game was reset once the beta was over. It should be on the down low though, not an announcement on RuneScape news, tell people who are really interested somewhere else.

edit: I saw that video before and thought it was fake because of graphics. I didn't know it acually came from jagex! But it does look fun. Good work jagex. Can't wait for the beta.

At this point, with the rework just getting underway, I wouldn't want a Beta. Eventually, though, I would love a Beta for longtime RS members whose names start with 'O' and end with 'rb Master44'...or something...

Damn that looks amazing. I eat my words and take back every slag I ever made against this game. I can't wait It's good to go away for a while and to come back to this surprise. I just got a new computer so I'm hoping they release the beta soon.

Yea, I think using the same assets or just changing the colors a little isn't going to make people think "this isn't RuneScape in space." I understand that the gameplay could be a lot different but you still have parts which are the defining elements of RuneScape. I'm thinking that they changed it by now and have either a different method or using spats that are unique to MechScape. Actually, I hope they do away with health bars and instead show that the enemy is getting hurt or damaged. That was you have an appropriate guess how much damage to do left.

Taking solid numbers out more and more would help to feel like it is less of a grind along with removing the need to grind to begin with.

I want to see enemy vehicles on Fire... Smoking... Ready to Explode... etc to figure out how hurt it is... The style of attacks by fleshy creatures... so forth.

I'm sorry, but if that was anything like the real game, I'd be horribly disappointed, and I can personally see why Jagex scrapped it. That is literally RuneScape in space, half of the video just looks like an edited Al Kharid and half like the passageway leading up to the fight caves. If you ask me, I'd say that video is fake, but yeah, if it is a leaked trailer, again I can see why Jagex scrapped it.

I do have a copy of the high quality video downloaded if it is needed, but I don't think it will be. I don't really want a beta at this point, although I would absolutely love some screenshots. Instead, I just want another game to play until Stellar Dawn comes out.

I agree slightly on the pont of a game until they finish but to be honest the beta is never gonna be the finished game. It's not like we're asking them to release the whole game now, just the beta.

For everybodys info that was made in feb 2008 so really the progress upon it should be massive. If the game was playable then at a runescape level of gameplay it should be far more advanced than runescape at the moment.


Couple of things I would not like to see from runescape:

• Click and go. Gets boring. I need to be able to move using the keyboard yet I wish to be able to use the qwerty keys without clicking a tab. Maybe using the alt keys? Maybe the mouse moves the screen and the arrow keys move you?
• Boring click and hit combat.
• Wierd fun stuff like frog masks and flowers etc.
• One dimensional travel without jumps etc.
• Having to click stairs rather than just walk up them.

I think it'd be best to assume that right now it is the same, just with "Stellar Dawn HD(which is far from HD)"...

MMG (Plexus) confirmed that that video was authentic, and was made to show the team in February 2008.



MMG also said that they axed that version of the game, and are starting again fresh.

PS: I don't care what MMG "says". Jagex was saying before the vid was leaked that it will be "awesome" and "not RuneScape in space." Obviously that was false...

Dude, it is remarkable that it was even working two years ago... It was runescape in space two years ago so it is now two years better than that. That is the point.
