First i didn't put this in general as almost everyone has read MMG's Q/A and if you haven't go read it, it is fun but a bit long and also because this thread has ideas of what i think some of the answers mean:

the good thing we got out of this Q/A is that the name IS Stellar Dawn and that even more J mods check this forum out now :).

The bad thing is:(written as i interprete them)

Jagex scrapped almost everything in the game but since they will use the same game engine and they have more lvl 99's in game making, the game will come out hopefully in 2010.

I'm dissapointed tbh, i was hoping the game would be out rlly soon, now they've just told us the game will be reworked all over again so the concept art and audio might even be considered "old" now? This deletion also gives me the idea that this is the reason Henrique left.

i'm really unhappy about this and will surely make me visit MSW less often until 2010 really, it looks like all the news we've gathered is going to start again later on, watch in half of year's time posts about StellarDawn.com not redirecting to funorb etc etc.

well thats it for now, i'll add more stuff if i can remember or reread.

makes me think it wont be that good of a game, if they had to scrap alot of stuff, and the fact theirs only a chance it will be out in 2010... i mean i cant really wait another year or 2 on a game i might enjoy

It should make you think the opposite. It's called improvement.

Patience should pay off. The more time that Jagex has to tweak StellarDawn, the better it will be for us and the less room for improvement on their part in terms of content that just doesn't fit in properly.

well look at it this way, for the past year all they have said is how good it is, and that it will tear up the internet,.. now their going to redo almost all of it..? if it was any good to begin with it shouldnt need all those improvements, atleast not right away

Maybe they should have just kept Runescape classic and never released RS2, because according to what you say anything new or any change is baaaaad.

how do you get that just out of curosity, i never said change is bad, i said if the game was as good as they said they wouldnt need to delay it over a year and redo almost all of it, they would release it and redo it overtime, like they did with rsc

Yep thats why i won't argue with you heartflame :P

if you have nothing on topic to say then there really is no point to post, no spam please.

The only good thing about what we learned is that we may learn more about it. At least they seem more open to discussing it and may participate more here. I haven't seen anyone comment on the "upcoming press release". Again, is upcoming like soon? Possibly we'll learn even more from that release.

So, Mechscape is dead. Long live Stellar Dawn then! I think they can regenerate interest if they keep the fans updated. I hope so, anyway. Today was a good start.

We'll see....

Nope, the game is being changed to the traditional grinder. "cause that's what sells"

So whilst the content and a lot of the game play will change from what was previously built almost everything else will go straight back into Stellar Dawn.

How do you know it was one month later? They could have been reworking on it for a while now and because of this, there is hope that it could come out in 2010. Even if it doesn't come out in 2010, I am still going to be waiting. After all, the quality of the game is more important than the speed it comes out in.

Back on topic: that would be kinda dum if they put grinding and stuff in it, but that is what sells i guess.

I am not glad that they are releasing it in 2010 maybe. We waited to long, but atleast they said they are going to give us more info this time around.

I don't think I'm willing to wait for a game another year, without seeing or knowing anything.

you know, given the SO little information about mechscape, i can't believe there are so many people waiting for it. I really hope Jagex does post more info as otherwise they would bore us to death.
Coded
we also know that there is going to be pvp

Ha I've been waiting for mechscape/SD a while now, but only registered my account in january because this forum's community is currently the best I've ever seen.

I mean come on, we have an open war against two rivaling forces spanning a whole section of the forum for three days: all for a birthday party. You can't get much more engulfed in a community than that. :p

We have had little spurts of information handed out to us over the past months. We had a direct interview person to person IRL with a Jagex employee, and was handed a large picture of concept art for Mechscape. I don't know whether or not Jagex can keep to their word on giving us information more frequently, but it would be nice.

We've had a large gaping hole in the time since our last bit of information, and biggest piece of treasure we've received was not even by Jagex, but was by snooping around and figuring things out ourselves. I really hope Jagex gives us something though. I can understand that they wouldn't want to tell us one thing, then completely change it by the game's release, but I'm sure there is still enough solid information we can receive.

At least open up the Stellar Dawn website, and start up the forum. It would definitely be beneficial for them so they don't get a giant spike of a hit on the game's release.
oribital
i've heard about mechscape in early 2008 from youtube videos but only got to follow whats happening with it when i found MSW because this forum finds the latest news first while other fansites repost what MSW found...

the best way to think of the situation is that in September at some point Mechscape was scrapped.

They then took the game engine and gameplay tweaks they had engineered and started a new project called Stellar Dawn. This will have different gameplay and content than Mechscape had, it may even be unrecognisable as far as the information that was released about Mechscape.

The person who said it can't have been that good a game if it needs this much improvement is spot on, basically according to MMG on his Q&A it was so bad that they couldn't rescue it and decided to restart. So no point in saying OMG its taken so long, just release it! Because that dev time has been put in the trash can and now Andrew is in charge of the new project.

I tend to agree with Drachen as well, he might seem a little cynical in as far as suspecting they are going to throw away the ground breaking, innovative game play in favour of a stereotypical bog standard MMO that is grindy and just the same old stuff with a different coat of paint, but I wonder about that too. I hope that they are keeping the elements that were different from any other MMO, the 4X in a MMO type of thing. But I wonder whether they just decided it wouldn't sell in huge numbers and so decided to make a cookie cutter instead. Hopefully MMG will address this point when he is next on.

I also wonder what we will do with the information so far, much of it would seem to have been rendered obsolete as far as acting as a taster for the game, again we need MMGs input as to how much in the interviews and concept art will still be in SD and how much was thrown out with the old Mechscape.
avneet
I really hope we don't have to wait another year+. They must have really screwed up the game if it's true.
Ampi
Andrew: We're proud to announce that Mechscape is nearing completion. We believe there is a fair chance it will come out next year....

IN SPRING 2042.
Gandaf007
I've said it before, but... I can wait...

Patience is key. I'd rather wait another year than get some shitastic game. Rushed games are bad, and I'm glad they're taking their time with it, instead of releasing it in a bad state so impatient players can play the game, and then realize it's horrible, then bash it beyond the point where it's reputation can never come back.

Just my two cents.
ZarkonisR
Funny how he says that yesterday, and today some "unknown person" posts an official Jagex trailer for MechScape... Something's very fishy, here...
jmb
I think the video is of the game that got scrapped. There really is no point in being overly secretive about it now as it will never be released for us to play, so there is no suspense to maintain. Indeed, they could have titled the video 'SD will be better than this!' and set a floor for our expectations.
SkyArmada
Well, good to know it'll be improved from that trailier
LordTobytwo
To be honest I think this re-work is a good idea but it leaves us with nthing while we wait. We should be allowed to play the old version to see how rubbish it is happy.gif . Then they can try and get the beta out for spring/summer. Also they are always talking about the game and don't tell us sepeartly about the BETA which we are interested in because it comes first.
